Arizona Theatre Company to Present ROMEO AND JULIET, 3/26-4/12

Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare's poetic masterpiece of jealousy, prejudice and betrayal, takes on a bold new theatricality under the ambitious and creative hand of award-winning director Kirsten Brandt and scenic, lighting and projection designer David Lee Cuthbert from March 26 through April 12 at the Herberger Theater Center, 222 E. Opera San Jose will present rare in-depth looks at how a new opera comes to life, including a discussion of the relevancy of modern opera by major music critics, and an open Sitzprobe (seated music rehearsal with orchestra). The Symposia and Sitzprobe take place on Sunday, February 1, and will give the public insights into the company's bold new opera-in-the-making, Where Angels Fear to Tread, as well as the opportunity to hear from critics including Joshua Kosman of the San Francisco Chronicle, Richard Scheinin of the San Jose Mercury News, and Janos Gereben of the San Francisco Examiner, and a peek behind-the-scenes.

Opera San Jose to Continue Season with World Premiere of WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD

Opera San José continues its 31st season with the WORLD PREMIERE of Where Angels Fear to Tread by American composer Mark Lanz Weiser, libretto by Roger Brunyate. This bold new opera, based on the novel by E. M. Forster, unveils a collision of cultures that leads to a misunderstanding of horrific consequences, set in motion when a rich English widow marries a middle-class but handsome young Italian against the wishes of her family. Where Angels Fear to Tread will be sung in English with English supertitles. Six performances are scheduled February 7 through 22 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San José. Tickets are on sale at the Opera San José Box Office, online at operasj.org or by phone at (408) 437-4450. Performances are supported, in part, by a grant from the San José Office of Cultural Affairs.

The Snow Queen will have its New York premiere this summer as part of The New York Music Theatre Festival (NYMF), celebrating its 11th Anniversary Season. With a book by Kirsten Brandt & Rick Lombardo, music byHaddon Kime, lyrics by Kirsten Brandt, Haddon Kime and Rick Lombardo, with additional music by Rick Lombardo, this new musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's fantastical coming-of-age adventure will be presented in The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Aves.). Directed by Mr. Lombardo, performances will begin on July 14th and continue through July 20th.

SJ Rep Presents 'This Wonderful Life' One-Man Holiday Show

For its holiday feature, the San Jose Rep will present This Wonderful Life, a visually stunning stage adaptation of the 1946 Frank Capra classic film It's a Wonderful Life. In this theatrical twist, San Jose Rep's associate director Kirsten Brandt directs actor Dan Hiatt, who plays all 35 characters in a one-man tour de force. The show runs from Saturday November 24 through Sunday December 23 at the San Jose Repertory Theatre.
