Arena Stage Closes THE ARABIAN NIGHTS 2/20/11

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater is delighted to present The Arabian Nights, written and directed by Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman (Metamorphoses). The production, presented in association with Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Kansas City Repertory Theatre and Lookingglass Theatre Company, has been recognized as "Zimmerman's most theatrically complete and perfect creation" (Chicago Tribune).

David Dinkins Joins DRIVING MISS DAISY Talk-back, 2/9

Producers Jed Bernstein and Adam Zotovich announced today that former NYC Mayor David Dinkins will participate in Driving Miss Daisy's series of Wednesday night post-performance talk-backs, celebrating Black History Month. Dinkins will join the line-up for the post-show discussion tomorrow (Wednesday, February 9), which also includes CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller, Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott, and NYU Professor Martha Hodes. Driving Miss Daisy producer Jed Bernstein will moderate the conversation, which will center around the issues of race brought up in the play. As previously announced, this series continues throughout the month, with talk-backs following all Wednesday evening performances. Upcoming guests include Harold Ford Jr. (February 16), Kathryn Stockett (February 23) and more. See below for a full schedule of participants.

ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL, MEASURE FOR MEASURE Play Shakespeare in the Park This Season; Sullivan, Esbjornson Direct

Following the success of last summer's Shakespeare in the Park productions of The Merchant of Venice and The Winter's Tale, The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) will once again stage two Shakespeare plays in repertory, running June 6 through July 31 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Daniel Sullivan, who recently directed Twelfth Night and The Merchant of Venice in the Park, will direct ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL and David Esbjornson, who directed Much Ado About Nothing in the Park, will direct MEASURE FOR MEASURE. Bank of America returns as lead sponsor of Shakespeare in the Park 2011, supporting The Public's mission to keep Shakespeare in the Park free.

Driving Miss Daisy stars Vanessa Redgrave and Boyd Gaines, along with playwright Alfred Uhry and director David Esbjornson surprised co-star James Earl Jones onstage with an 80th birthday celebration yesterday, January 17. The celebration was followed by a post-performance talk-back for Martin Luther King Day with Uhry and Esbjornson, moderated by Driving Miss Daisy producer Jed Bernstein.

Jones will make remarks about Dr. King at the program, which will also include City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. The event will take place at Martin Luther King Jr. High School (122 Amsterdam Avenue) at 8:00 AM.

With the playwright at their side on stage at the Golden Theatre, producers Jed Bernstein and Adam Zotovich announced today that Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Driving Miss Daisy, will extend its Broadway premiere engagement through April 9, 2011, making it the only play this season that will be running into the spring. The play's three acclaimed stars, Tony Award-winners James Earl Jones, Vanessa Redgrave and Boyd Gaines, will all remain with the production. Directed by David Esbjornson, Driving Miss Daisy opened on Broadway at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) on October 25, 2010, where it has since broken all house records. The production was previously scheduled to run through January 29, 2011.
