The Jewish Community Center of San Francisco (JCCSF) takes pride in announcing the 2014-15 Arts and Ideas Season; an exciting line-up of today's acclaimed writers, food experts, renowned scientists and thinkers, as well as fascinating entertainers. Theatrical and musical highlights in the first half of the season include The Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt, rock icon Amanda Palmer and actor Richard Chamberlain.

Joan Rivers was seen dancing along with cast of the David Byrne/Fatboy Slim hit musical HERE LIES LOVE, directed by Alex Timbers at the Public Theatre. Joan opted not for the seated balcony but actually brought flats and joined the audience on the disco floor where the show takes place. She loved the show so much that she raved about it two days later on Fox 5's 'Good Day New York' as well as at her new book signing at Barnes & Noble on Union Square, telling fans, 'If you see one show this year, you must see HERE LIES LOVE. The Public Theatre production of David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love will open at the new Dorfman Theatre (formerly the Cottesloe) in London. Here Lies Love plays from Tuesday, September 30, 2014 to Thursday, January 8, 2015 with a press night on Monday, October 13.

The award-winning New York production of David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love will open the new Dorfman Theatre (formerly the Cottesloe), following its complete refurbishment as part of the NT Future project. Here Lies Love plays from 30 September to 8 January, with a press night on 13 October.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the second edition of Sound + Vision, the annual documentary series that explores a diverse range of music, artists, genres, and styles from all over the world.

The Public Theater's production of David Byrne, Fatboy Slim and Alex Timbers' smash hit musical, Here Lies Love, opened on May 1st at the Public Theater's Luesther Hall for an open-ended commercial run. The principal cast from the 2013 world premiere of Here Lies Love returns, including Ruthie Ann Miles and Jose Llana as Imelda and Ferdinand Marcos, and Conrad Ricamora as Ninoy Aquino. Doctorow, Jackie Hoffman, Justin Levine, Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson, and Micah Stock join this exciting evening, which will celebrate Shakespeare and the newly released Library of America book, Shakespeare in America, edited by Public Theater Shakespeare Scholar in Residence James Shapiro.

The newest THEATER TALK celebrates Here Lies Love, the audience-immersive "poperetta" at The Public, with composer/lyricist David Byrne, and the show's two stars, Jose Llana and Ruthie Ann Miles, who portray real-life Philippine political figures Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos.

Rubblebucket will be playing on August 26 at NYC's Mercury Lounge, followed by Rough Trade on August 27, supporting their new album Survival Sounds, out on August 26 on Communion Records.

On Saturday June 14th, pop, jazz, and musical theatre stars from all over the world joined forces at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto to perform in 'If I Loved You: Gentlemen Prefer Broadway,' a concert showcasing and redefining love songs from classic Broadway musicals. For the finale, the cast, which included David Byrne, Boy George, Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), Josh Groban, Brent Carver, Steven Page, Brennan Hall and concert organizer Rufus Wainwright, sang their own rendition of 'Summer Nights' from Grease.

Rufus Wainwright teamed up with Grammy and Tony-winning music director Stephen Oremus to redefine dozens of the most beloved gems in the Great American Songbook, all love songs from Broadway musicals. Wainwright's recontextualizations, performed exclusively by men and to men, fortify the songs' universality as expressions of love. The groundbreaking evening showcased Wainwright and an international spectrum of pop, jazz and musical theatre stars in unexpected, entirely enchanting pairs.

The Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can are launching a new partnership to produce a series of dynamic musical performances at the Museum from June 2014 to May 2015. Inspired by the Jewish Museum's diverse slate of exhibitions, the five programs will take place throughout the year across the Museum at Fifth Avenue and 92nd Street, Manhattan. The partnership kicks off with Asphalt Orchestra performing during the Museum Mile Festival on June 10, followed by a July 10 concert featuring works by Minimalist composers such as Philip Glass and Louis Andriessen in conjunction with Other Primary Structures, an exhibition of global sculpture from the 1960s.

Coney Island USA's 32nd Annual Mermaid Parade will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, June 21, 2014. The parade starts at the corner of West 21st Street and Surf Avenue, and proceeds east on Surf Avenue to West 10th Street, where it turns south to the Boardwalk, and then north back to Steeplechase Plaza, where it concludes.
