'Literature cannot be the business of a woman's life.' Or can it?

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 2016/2017 season with a musical saga of immigrant America, Rags. From the creators of Fiddler on the Roof and Wicked, this exhilarating musical follows the journey of Jewish immigrants Rebecca and her son David, who find themselves navigating the teeming, turn-of-the-century tenements of New York. A soaring, tuneful score (music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz) illuminates this sweeping saga (book by Joseph Stein) of dreams and disillusions, love lost and inspiration found, and the heart and soul of the American character. It was declared "A winner, warm and witty. You are tempted to rise cheering," by The Mercury News. Rags will be directed by TheatreWorks Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley, who notes "this production could not be timelier. As America debates immigration policies, what better time to present this deeper look at the newcomer's experience." Robert Cuccioli and Glory Crampton reunited at a special gathering for the official release of the new cast recording of the York Theatre Company production of Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Sherman Yellen's musical Rothschild & Sons last night, July 25, at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). The event featured appearances by cast members Mr. Cuccioli and Ms. Crampton, along with Sheldon Harnick, Sherman Yellen, Jeffrey B. Moss, and James Morgan, York's Producing Artistic Director. Ken Davenport and Michael Jackowitz, the producers of the new Off-Broadway musical DADDY LONG LEGS, have announced that the winner of the "Give A Girl Her Chance" contest will perform live tonight at the Davenport Theatre.  Una Morrison of Derry City, Ireland will take the stage for her Off-Broadway debut after tonight's 7pm performance of DADDY LONG LEGS.

THE FULL MONTY: THE MUSICAL has some pretty unlikely ingredients for musical comedy: divorce, unemployment, degradation, custody battles, suicide, alienation and Buffalo, New York in the economically depressed 2000. Yet somehow, Short North Stage director Edward Carignan makes all those ingredients work while bringing Terrence McNally's script and David Yazbeck's lyrics to life.

The contest submission due date will now be Monday, March 28th at 11:59pm, and the age limit for submissions has been removed.

Today in 1987, Les Miserables opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 6680 performances. Written by Claude-Michel Schonberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo, Les Miserables is set in early 19th-century France. The plot follows the stories of many characters as they struggle for redemption and revolution. An ensemble that includes prostitutes, student revolutionaries, factory workers, and others joins the lead characters. In January 2010, it played its ten-thousandth performance in London, at Queen's Theatre in London's West End. On 3 October 2010, the show celebrated its 25th anniversary with three productions running in the same city: the original show at London's West End; the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary touring production at the original home of the show, the Barbican Centre; and the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary concert at London's O2 Arena. The original Broadway cast included Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, David Bryant as Marius, Judy Kuhn as Cosette, Michael Maguire as Enjolras, Frances Ruffelle as Eponine, Braden Danner as Gavroche, Donna Vivino as Young Cosette, Jennifer Butt as Madame Thenardier, Leo Burmester as Thenardier, Randy Graff as Fantine, and Terrence Mann as Javert.

The producers of the new Off-Broadway musical DADDY LONG LEGS, and Paul Gordon (Music & Lyrics) have released "The Secret of Happiness" sheet music from DADDY LONG LEGS for free. 

?San Diego Musical Theatre announces the first production of their 2016 season, RAGTIME, February 5-21, 2016 (press opening on Saturday, February 6th) at the Spreckels Theatre.

Producers Ken Davenport and Michael Jackowitz announced today that DADDY LONG LEGS will host a screening of the 1955 film adaptation of Jean Webster's classic 1912 novel Daddy Long Legs on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 8:00 pm at the Davenport Theatre (354 West 45th Street). Additionally, every audience member attending the screening will receive an exclusive discount to see the live musical version of DADDY LONG LEGS, playing at the Davenport Theatre.

DADDY LONG LEGS has just announced that it will be the first ever Broadway or Off-Broadway performance to be broadcast online to the world for free on December 10, 2015.

The cast album for the new Off-Broadway musical DADDY LONG LEGS, with music and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Paul Gordon (Sense and Sensibility) and a book by Tony Award and Olivier Award winner John Caird (Les Miserables), is available today in the U.S. via digital release from Ghostlight Records.

BroadwayWorld has just learned that Adam Halpin (Broadway's GLORY DAYS, RENT Natl. Tour) will star in the new musical Daddy Long Legs, alongside his wife Megan McGinnis (Broadway's LES MISERABLES, SIDE SHOW, LITTLE WOMEN). Halpin, recently seen in another two-person musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS at Long Wharf Theatre, will assume the role on November 20th.
