"You Don't Have to Be a Whore," a new solo play written and performed by David Boyle, premieres at Studio Be, 3110 N. Sheffield, Chicago, Sun., Mar. 2, 7:30 p.m., and continues every Sunday in March, 7:30 p.m. Directed by Rob Fagin, the stories begin when a four-year-old boy gives up on anything magical when he is unable to turn his baby sister into a butterfly. Chicago Slam Works to Present LITMASH, 2/3

Chicago Slam Works presents a whole new kind of slam with 'LitMash' on the first Monday of the month at the Haymarket Pub and Brewery, 737 W. Randolph Street. 'LitMash' combines the art forms of poetry, comedy, storytelling, music and creative non-fiction into one action-packed evening. The next 'LitMash' is Monday, February 3 at 8 p.m. The January performance was cancelled due to extreme weather so the February show boasts an expanded line up of performers. The Side Project has announced it will present The Kindness of Strangers: A Festival of Storytelling. Forty storytellers will converge in a three-week festival featuring first-time and experienced tellers nightly, accompanied by live multi-instrumentalist, Matt Wills. The Festival, kicking off today, October 20, will run Sunday through Wednesday eves at 7:30pm through November 6.

Storytelling - part acting, part writing and part solo performance piece - is possibly the world's oldest art form. The original medium for classics like Beowulf and Homer's Odyssey, storytelling as performance will be celebrated in 21st Century style in the side project's second Festival of Storytelling, Each night, three to four different artists will take the stage to perform 5- to 12-minute pieces, prior to a full-length story offered by one of the festival's three headliners. Multi-instrumentalist Matt Wills will provide musical accompaniment. The Festival, kicking off October 20 at The Side Project, will run Sunday through Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm through November 6.
