Lantern Theater Company presents Philadelphia Premiere of RED VELVET

Lantern Theater Company will launch its 24th season with the regional premiere of Red Velvet, Lolita Chakrabarti's stirring play based on the true story of 19th century actor Ira Aldridge, who made history as the first African-American actor to portray Othello in 1833 London. Longtime Lantern artistic collaborator Peter DeLaurier will direct a cast that includes Tony Award nominee Forrest McClendon as Ira Aldridge, with David Bardeen, Damon Bonetti, Liz Filios, Adam Hammet, David Pica, Ebony Pullum, and Lauren Sowa. Theater critics and members of the press are invited to attend opening night on Wednesday, September 13 at 7 p.m. A full schedule is included in the fact sheet below.

Lantern Theater Company Presents William Shakespeare's Political and Psychological Thriller CORIOLANUS

Lantern Theater Company continues its 2016/17 season with its annual Shakespeare production, the rarely performed Coriolanus. Lantern Artistic Director Charles McMahon will direct a cast that includes internationally acclaimed actress, director, and author Tina Packer as Volumnia, Robert Lyons as Coriolanus, with Chris Anthony, David Bardeen, Mary Lee Bednarek, Kirk Wendell Brown, Charlie DelMarcelle, Leonard C. Haas, Adam Hammet, Brian McCann, Hannah Van Sciver, and Brock D. Vickers. Theater critics and members of the press are invited to attend opening night on Wednesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. A full schedule is included in the fact sheet below.

Lantern Theatre Company Present MRS. WARREN'S PROFESSION

Philadelphia stage legend Mary Martello plays the title role in George Bernard Shaw's scathing comedy on social hypocrisy and the excesses of capitalism. Mrs. Kitty Warren worked her way out of the London slums and now lives abroad, having provided her daughter Vivie with the education and means to grow into a smart, independent young woman of strong convictions. When Mrs. Warren returns, mother and daughter discover that neither is the woman they thought they knew.

Lantern Theater Company Presents George Bernard Shaw's MRS. WARREN'S PROFESSION

 Lantern Theater Company opens its twenty-third season on September 8, 2016 with Mrs. Warren's Profession, George Bernard Shaw's scathing comedy on social hypocrisy and the excesses of capitalism. Directed by Kathryn MacMillan and featuring Mary Martello in the title role, the cast also includes David Bardeen, Andrew Criss, Daniel Fredrick, Claire Inie-Richards, and John Lopes. Theater critics and members of the press are invited to attend opening night on Wednesday, September 14 at 7 p.m. 

PlayPenn to Stage Reading of R. Eric Thomas's TIME IS ON OUR SIDE

PlayPenn, Philadelphia's nationally recognized professional new play development organization, enters the second year of its support program offering workshop resources to a new play tied to an upcoming production at a theatre in our region. The fall 2015 partnership with Simpatico Theatre Project will culminate in a reading of R. Eric Thomas' Time Is On Our Side on Monday, December 7.

The battle of the sexes becomes a sensual tango in Lantern Theater Company's production of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, running tonight, March 19-May 3. Directed by Charles McMahon, the production features David Bardeen, K.O. DelMarcelle, Nathan Foley, J Hernandez, Dave Johnson, Joanna Liao, Ahren Potratz, Matt Tallman, and Bradley K. Wrenn.
