The Peninsula Symphony Orchestra Celebrates Three Eras of Jazz and Symphonic Synergy with Concerts, 1/17-1/18

Los Altos, CA, November 22, 2013 – With a signature flair for programming and a nod to three of history's great jazz artists who are equally at home in the symphonic scene, Music Director and conductor Mitchell Sardou Klein has programmed an evening of music by Bay Area composer/pianist Taylor Eigsti and his artistic predecessors Dave Brubeck and George Gershwin in two performances January 17 and 18. The program includes the world premieres of new works by Bay Area native and internationally recognized jazz artist Taylor Eigsti along with Eigsti performing Gershwin's game-changing Rhapsody in Blue and a special tribute to late Bay Area composer/pianist and jazz innovator Dave Brubeck in works to be announced featuring Eigsti and saxophonist Dayna Stephens. Rounding out the evening will be Gershwin's overtures to Girl Crazy and Strike Up the Band. The concert will be given Friday, Janaury 17, at 8 pm at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center and Saturday, January 18, at 8 pm at Flint Center/DeAnza College. The George Gee Swing Orchestra Takes a Swing at Kickstarter

As New York City bandleader George Gee says, “Swing Makes You Happy” and that's the title of the George Gee Swing Orchestra's Kickstarter campaign to fund a double CD of new music. The campaign runs through December 12th on Kickstarter.com. When their goal is reached the recording process begins in New York and continues until the final CD is ready in May of 2014. Says Gee “The GGSO is making this CD to honor the swingin' BIG BAND sound and its creators, as well as give voice to modern, yet eminently danceable compositions featuring the arrangements and original writing by the band's highly-regarded Music Director and Trombonist David Gibson.” The band aims to record their new music and continue the tradition of swingin' big bands.

Oakland Symphony Chorus Opens 55th Season With Brahms Tonight

Celebrating the opening of its 55th season, Oakland Symphony Chorus and Music Director Dr. Lynne Morrow will give one performance only of Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes tonight, November 16, at 7:30 pm at First Covenant Church in Oakland. The performance will culminate an 11-week intensive workshop on the work that is open to the public. Admission to tonight's November 16 performance is free of charge.

On November 21, 2013, a new multimedia play 'Split/Screen' will premier with a three-day run at the Helen Mills Theater. Split/Screen will feature new music by jazz composer and pianist Ben Rosenblum (winner of the Downbeat and ASCAP awards for original jazz composition and arrangement). This album, as well as her last one from 2012 One Christmas, were both produced by Bruce Kimmel's Kritzerland Records. It is difficult to think of Bainum simply. She is a tall, statuesque, elegant beauty who offers so much talent in a single breath.
