Dance/NYC has announced the 25 inaugural recipients of the Dance Advancement Fund. The purpose of the Fund, made possible by the generous support of the Ford Foundation, is to address the inequitable distribution of resources in the dance field by supporting dance makers and companies with budgets of less than $1 million.

On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) will host its annual New York Fall Gala at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. This year's gala commemorates the Foundation's 25th year and honors Founder Sir Elton John. President Bill Clinton, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, Sharon Stone, and others will pay tribute to Elton John's achievements as a philanthropist and humanitarian. The legendary Aretha Franklin will be the special musical guest, along with performances by violinist Joshua Bell and Broadway's The Lion King, featuring Heather Headley. Neil Patrick Harris will host the event.

Tonight, the twelfth annual Time 100 gala celebrating Time's annual list of the world's most influential people takes place, Tuesday, April 26 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. The event will feature performances by Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande, honorary tributes from members of this year's list and remarks from Time Inc. CEO Joe Ripp, Time Editor Nancy Gibbs and Time Publisher Meredith Long. Time is a Time Inc. (NYSE:TIME) brand.

Dance/NYC, New York City's leading organization dedicated to promoting the knowledge, appreciation, practice, and performance of dance in the metropolitan area, today announced its seventh annual 2016 Symposium happening Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Gibney Dance Center's newly renovated downtown location, as well as a Disability. Dance. Artistry. Pre-Symposium on February 27. This Symposium is the only full-day gathering of dance leaders and supporters in the metropolitan New York City area. Four of today's leaders in the arts serve as the convening's keynote speakers: Misty Copeland of American Ballet Theatre, Virginia Johnson of Dance Theatre of Harlem, Edwin Torres, the Acting Commissioner of New York City's Department of Cultural Affairs, and Darren Walker of the Ford Foundation.

Last night, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's holiday season at New York City Center kicked off with an Opening Night Gala Benefit. The one-night-only benefit performance and party honored BNY Mellon for its major support of the Ailey Organization since 2007, and Agnes & Gerald Hassell accepted on the institution's behalf. Film star Chadwick Boseman and actress and Grammy-Award winning artist Brandy served as Honorary Chairs, and the event's co-chairs were Simin Allison, Kathryn & Kenneth Chenault, Debra L. Lee, Doris & Gilbert Meister, Daria L. & Eric J. Wallach and Joan & Sandy Weill. $2.5 million was raised in support of the creation of new works, scholarships to The Ailey School, and Ailey's extensive educational programs for young people.

MasterVoices, formerly The Collegiate Chorale, was honored at the Martina Arroyo Foundation's11th Annual Gala.MasterVoices was recognized along with American couture designer Joanna Mastroianni and The Michel Maurel award-winner Ernst Rieser. Brian Kellow and Terrance McKnight hosted the gala, with performances by the young artists of Prelude to Performance, Jennifer Rowley, Michele Angelini and Cecilia Violetta Lopez (both featured in the October issue of Opera News), as well as other special guests.
