Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU), now celebrating its 21st year as a not-for-profit service organization, has announced a lineup of Broadway stars performing at their annual TRU Love Benefit, Making the Impossible Possible!. The previously announced honorees include producer Van Dean of The Broadway Consortium; director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell for his work with Broadway Bares; and legendary downtown entrepreneur Edith O'Hara and the 13th Street Repertory Company. The event will take place Sunday November 11th at the brand new midtown Lucky Cheng's at 240 W. 52nd Street, with generous sponsorship support from Peroni Beer, The Players Theatre, Pure Audio Systems and open captioning for people with hearing loss provided by C2 Caption Coalition. The festivities begin at noon with wine, drinks and appetizers served as only the Lucky Cheng's girls can serve them, followed by a luncheon at 1pm and the awards ceremony and performances at 2pm.
Nederlander Worldwide Productions, under the direction of Robert Nederlander, Jr., has announced a new theatrical event: BROADWAY ROX. BROADWAY ROX is a live concert celebrating the rock and pop hits of Broadway, featuring American Idol star Shannon Magrane.
Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces the 2012 TRU Voices New Plays Reading Series. The three plays that will be presented are Foreclosure by Vincent Delaney, produced by Mondays Dark Theatre Company and Kenny Howard of The Broadway Consortium; Appendage by Derek Murphy, produced by Tweiss Productions (Sharon Weiss & Eileen B. Weiss); and The Sin Eater by Michael Bettencourt, produced by Block & Tackle Productions, Inc. and Elfin Frederick Vogel. The selected plays will be read on Mondays, June 4, 11, and 18 respectively, at 7pm at The Roy Arias Theatre, 300 W. 43rd Street, 5th Floor, Studio 500, NYC. This June, 54 BELOW, a new performance venue in the grand tradition of New York City nightlife opens its doors to the public. The venue, located just below legendary Studio 54 at 254 West 54th Street, presents an exciting lineup of Broadway brightest talent.
2012 Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award nominee Melissa Van der Schyff (Bonnie & Clyde), fellow 2012 Drama Desk Award nominee, Claybourne Elder (One Arm, also seen in Bonnie & Clyde) and Darren Ritchie (Broadway's Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure, Dracula, the Musical, Little Shop of Horrors) will star in a special industry reading of Vincent Delaney's new play Foreclosure, presented by Mondays Dark Theatre Company as part of the TRU ("Theater Resources Unlimited") New Play Reading Series, on Monday, June 4 at 7:00 PM at the Roy Arias Off-Broadway Theater in Manhattan.
Frank Wildhorn's WONDERLAND, which opened on Broadway last Spring, will make its international premiere at Tokyo's Aoyama Theatre in Fall 2012. Set to star in the production are Kei Aran and Megumi Hamada. Hiromi Suzuki will direct.
