Ejay Yatco, 22-year-old musical theater arranger, composer and pianist from the Philippines, whose recent works for American musicals 'Little Shop of Horrors' and 'Edges' and Filipino rock musical 'Sa Wakas' received critical acclaim, has made it to the 17th annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) final, where he is set to compete with two other adult instrumentalists: Jonathan Saw, an electronic violinist from Singapore and Stepan Mezencev, a classical violinist from Russia. The winner will be declared Instrumentalist of the World.

On Monday, June 17, composer Frank Wildhorn brought another installment of his popular 'Frank & Friends' concert to the Broadway at Birdland stage. For this outing, he brought a spectacular band and Broadway singers Teal Wicks (Jekyll & Hyde), Jackie Burns (Wicked) and Darren Ritchie (Wonderland) to celebrate the his Broadway and pop songbook. This past Monday, Frank's pals included Las Vegas and supperclub headliner Clint Holmes and Broadway mainstay Capathia Jenkins. (Holmes has recently been traveling the country singing Wildhorn's songs and praises, and Jenkins made her Broadway debut in the composer's production of The Civil War before starring in Caroline, Or Change and Newsies.)

Brave New World Enterprises, LLC has completed casting for its pre-Broadway workshop table reading of the new musical based on Aldous Huxley's novel, BRAVE NEW WORLD.

A closed reading was just held for Excalibur, featuring music by Frank Wildhorn, a book by Ivan Menchell, lyrics by Robin Lerner, and orchestrations by Koen Schoots. Directed by Francesca Zambello, the show was commissioned by Werner Signer of Theater St. Gallen, in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Opening night will be in March 2014.
The new musical comedy, NERDS, is trying to make its way to Broadway, and it's starting out right here in Raleigh. This is a great opportunity for the Triangle theater community, and the show is absolutely worth a trip downtown.
Full casting and the creative team have been announced for the limited, pre-Broadway engagement of NERDS, A New Musical Comedy at North Carolina Theatre's AJ Fletcher Theatre the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh, NC. The show will run from January 18, 2013 through February 3, 2013.
Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU), now celebrating its 21st year as a not-for-profit service organization, has announced a lineup of Broadway stars performing at their annual TRU Love Benefit, Making the Impossible Possible!. The previously announced honorees include producer Van Dean of The Broadway Consortium; director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell for his work with Broadway Bares; and legendary downtown entrepreneur Edith O'Hara and the 13th Street Repertory Company. The event will take place tonight, November 11th at the brand new midtown Lucky Cheng's at 240 W. 52nd Street, with generous sponsorship support from Peroni Beer, The Players Theatre, Pure Audio Systems and open captioning for people with hearing loss provided by C2 Caption Coalition. The festivities begin at noon with wine, drinks and appetizers served as only the Lucky Cheng's girls can serve them, followed by a luncheon at 1pm and the awards ceremony and performances at 2pm.
