Commencing April 1, Kritzerland will continue at Sterling's in its new venue Sterling's Upstairs at The Federal. Sunday's show was a salute to the lyrics of Ira Gershwin, boasting the glorious talents of musical director Shelly Markham and singers Shannon Warne, Damon Kirsche,Jane Noseworthy, Melody Hollis and Lauren Leigh Barker. Special guest was the remarkable Andrea Marcovicci (photo above) whose grande acting style really sets a song apart and makes it a sizzlingly unique experience on a cabaret stage. Kimmel told delightful anecdotes about Gershwin's collaborations with brother George Gershwin, Kurt Weill, Jerome Kern, Burton Lane, Harold Arlen, Harry Warren, among other musical composers. The program offered well known songs, but with an emphasis on those lesser known tunes that are really little gems, totally worth remembering. Thanks to Kimmel and Kritzerland for keeping all this wonderful music alive and vibrant.
The Denver Center Theatre Company announced its lineup of productions for the 2012/13. Artistic Director Kent Thompson continues the company's tradition of presenting new work with two world premieres that were read as part of the 2012 Colorado New Play Summit as well as a family production. From an Alexandre Dumas classic to an August Wilson favorite and from an explosive Broadway hit to a one-man show. Says Kent Thompson, "Although I don't pick seasons based upon a theme, 2012/13 is clearly about love and marriage - the thwarted love of Romeo and Juliet, the comic upset of discovering you've not been legally married for the past 25 years (!), the discovery that your dead husband may have loved another woman, and the hard-fought but lost love of D'Artagnan."

Now performing at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County, California through January 1, the current touring stage production of IRVING BERLIN'S WHITE CHRISTMAS--a beguiling, surprisingly-winsome re-imagining of the classic 1954 Paramount Pictures musical motion picture of the same name--is saved from being just another run-of-the-mill musical adaptation thanks to its incredible Irving Berlin melodies and its enjoyable dance performances that harken back to a simpler time. More than anything, this satisfying production is able to hold its own mostly because it doesn't seem to have any pretense in its core.
Broadway is certainly full of them: those amazing performers dubbed as 'triple threats'--those singer/dancer/actor-types that are just brimming with an abundance of extraordinary talent. David Elder rightly belongs in this revered group, and has proven the label quite a lot over the years, working steadily on the stage with an envious consistency. For the holiday season, he's bringing his knack for entertaining audiences as one of the leads in the touring stage version of Irving Berlin's WHITE CHRISTMAS, playing at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through January 1, 2012. Before arriving in Orange County where he'll spend the remainder of the holidays, Elder chatted with BroadwayWorld's Michael Lawrence Quintos about his early interests, his fulfilling career in musical theater, and his tap-happy foray into Danny Kaye's shoes.
