I am excited to announce that we will produce a one-night-only special benefit reading of the Steinberg Center's inaugural production, Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage. Daniel Sullivan will return to direct this reading on June 15 at the Laura Pels Theatre.

Why Now?' at Sardi's today, April 4 (11:45 AM-2:30 PM), it was announced by Isa Goldberg, president of Drama Desk. Glover will join panelists-actors Michael Pennington and Scott Shepherd and directors Daniel Sullivan and Julie Taymor-in the lively discussion exploring the reasons why New York's current theater season has such a distinctive Shakespearean flavor. Carol Rocamora, an educator, critic, playwright, translator, and Drama Desk member, will be the moderator.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Managing Director Brian Long have announced that the New York premiere of The Few, written by Samuel D. Hunter and directed by Davis McCallum, will begin previews Wednesday, April 23 at 7pm at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place. The official opening night is set for Thursday, May 8 at 7pm; The Few is scheduled to run through Sunday, June 8.

The world premiere production of the brand new musical comedy Bullets Over Broadway, written by Woody Allen and based on the screenplay by Allen and Douglas McGrath for the 1994 film, will begin preview performances tomorrow, March 11 and officially open Thursday, April 10, 2014 at The St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street). New York's theater season has had a distinctive Shakespearean flavor to it with the critically acclaimed Shakespeare's Globe productions of Twelfth Night, or What You Will and Richard III (in repertory at the Belasco Theater), Lincoln Center Theater's Macbeth, the Bard's The Comedy of Errors (Shakespeare in the Park), King Lear (by Theatre for a New Audience in Brooklyn), and the Wooster Group's Cry, Trojans! (Troilus & Cressida). The Drama Desk's annual Spring Luncheon/Panel Discussion at Sardi's Eugenia Room, 234 West 44th St., on Friday, April 4, will try to answer the questions 'Why Shakespeare? Why Now?' with a distinguished lineup of guests, including British actor/director Michael Pennington (King Lear); Scott Shepherd (Cry, Trojans!, The Wooster Group's Troilus & Cressida); and director Daniel Sullivan (The Comedy of Errors, Shakespeare in the Park). The Public Theater announced the line-up today for the 2014 free Shakespeare in the Park season, continuing a 52-year tradition of free theater in Central Park. Since 1962, over five million people have enjoyed more than 150 free productions of Shakespeare and other classical works and musicals at the Delacorte Theater. Conceived by founder Joe Papp as a way to make great theater accessible to all, The Public's free Shakespeare in the Park continues to be the bedrock of the Company's mission to increase access and engage the community. This summer, free Shakespeare in the Park will feature a comedy and a tragedy with Jack O'Brien directing MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and Daniel Sullivan directing KING LEAR.
The Old Globe Welcomes New Board Members for 2014

The Old Globe's Annual Meeting was held on January 27 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. After a reception in the Ottenstein Lobby, outgoing Old Globe Board Chair Harold W. Fuson, Jr. welcomed the Board of Directors and guests and announced the newly elected Board and Executive Committee members, including his successor as Board Chair, Elaine Bennett Darwin. Managing Director Michael G. Murphy gave an update on the Globe's financial position and presented highlights of the 2013 fiscal year, and Artistic Director Barry Edelstein spoke about the artistic future of the Globe and its place in the San Diego community. The meeting was followed by a reception and dinner for the Board of Directors, Ambassadors, and Founders Level Donors at the Prado Ballroom in Balboa Park's historic House of Hospitality.

Second Stage Theatre has announced that JON ROBIN BAITZ's drama, THE SUBSTANCE OF FIRE, will be part of the company's current 35th Anniversary season. Directed by TRIP CULLMAN, THE SUBSTANCE OF FIREwill begin preview performances on Tuesday, April 22 and officially open on Monday, May 12. Casting and the full creative team will be announced at a later date.

Red Bull Theater presents the Off Broadway revival of Loot by Joe Orton. Red Bull Artistic Director Jesse Berger directs a company that includes Rebecca Brooksher (Fay), Eric Martin Brown (Meadows), Jarlath Conroy (McLeavy), Ryan Garbayo (Dennis), Rocco Sisto (Truscott), and Nick Westrate (Hal). Loot has scenic design by Narelle Sissons, costume design by Sara Jean Tosetti, lighting design by Scott Zielinski, and sound design by Brad Berridge. Opening Thursday January 16th, this limited engagement continues through February 9th only at Lucille Lortel Theater (121 Christopher Street).
