Quintessence Theatre Group, Philadelphia's newest Equity theatre, launches its ninth season of progressive classic theatre with a world premiere adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Quintessence joins the 200th anniversary celebration of one of the world's greatest horror stories with an original adaptation of Shelley's timely tale of humanity's obsession with knowledge and of the unintended consequences of scientific innovation. Theatre Philadelphia, the region's marketing and leadership organization for theatre, proudly announces the 2018 nominees for the Barrymore Award for Excellence in Theatre. Celebrating the rich, diverse professional theatre scene in the Greater Philadelphia region, the Barrymore Ceremony will be held on Monday, November 5th at 7pm at the Bok Building at 1901 S. 9th Street in South Philadelphia.  The Walnut Street Theatre will host an exclusive one-night-only concert as this year's annual Gala. The concert, America Sings!, features several Walnut favorites performing over 20 American and Broadway standards. The concert will take place on the Walnut's mainstage on Friday, May 4 at 7:00PM.

 Walnut Street Theatre is pleased to announce that it will honor Walnut Street Theatre Trustee Ronald Bowlan with the 2018 Edwin Forrest Award at the theatre's annual Gala. The evening's events will begin with a 90-minute concert filled with Philadelphia's most cherished stars singing America's musical favorites and patriotic numbers. Travelling from California to China this raucous comedy examines the successes and failures of 'tiger parenting' from the point of view of a playwright who's actually been through it.This hilarious and fast-paced story of the struggle of two siblings to deal with their upbringing, heritage, and loaded preconceptions was described by ArtsATL as 'a spirited, fast-paced, colorful, funny and entertaining romp that's as energetic as it is easy to like.'

Temple Theaters closes their 49th season with Caryl Churchill's experimental drama Love and Information, running April 19 -30 in the Randall Theater at Temple University. Twin interpretations, presented in rotating repertory, are directed by Liz Carlson and Noah Herman, who each provide their unique perspective on contemporary humanity.

The Arden Theatre Company just opened the world premiere of a new translation of THREE SISTERS. Curt Columbus translates this play, originally written by Anton Chekhov. The Arden Theatre calls this new translation, "audacious, alive, and contemporary." I would have to agree with this, THREE SISTERS is a contemporary retelling of Chekhov's beloved play, but it also keeps with the tradition of Chekhov. The Arden's production is bold and honest with a strong cast.
