In April of 1949, Rodgers and Hammerstein shocked the Theatre World by writing a song for their new musical professing that humans developed racial prejudice by nurture and not by nature. Later that same year, a scene in the new musical by Maxwell Anderson and Kurt Weill showed two racially different young boys innocently striking up a quick friendship, unaware of why anyone would object.

Intiman Theatre announces a one-night-only special event, the 'Valentine's Day Cabaret,' on Monday, February 14th at 7:30 pm. The concert will be hosted by Daniel Breaker (A Doctor In Spite Of Himself and Broadway's Shrek and Passing Strange), and newest addition to Intiman's 2011 season, A Boy and His Soul writer/performer Colman Domingo. Arguably one of Broadway's most beloved, sought-after talents, Tony Award winner Sutton Foster is returning to Southern California this week to make her Orange County Performing Arts Center debut for a series of intimate concerts. Performing at the Samueli Theater from January 6 through January 9, Foster's intimate set will feature many of her hits from her stellar Broadway career as well as a few personal favorites and selections from her debut solo album Wish, available on Ghostlight Records. This week, top theatrical talent paid tribute to playwright Lynn Nottage, recipient of the 2010 ‘Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award', presented by The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust. Scenes highlighting Ms. Nottage's work (including Ruined, Intimate Apparel and a preview of her upcoming By The Way, Meet Vera Stark) were performed by actors Quincy Tyler Bernstine (In the Next Room), two-time Tony Award-winner and Oscar-nominee Viola Davis (Fences, King Hedley II), Kimberly Hébert Gregory (The Brother/Sister Plays), Russell Hornsby (Intimate Apparel), Tony Award-winner Karen Olivo (West Side Story, In the Heights) and Condola Rashad (Ruined).
