Two of the country's leading contemporary dance venues are teaming up to commission brand new family friendly shows to be presented during the Christmas period of 2018 and 2019. The Place and DanceEast have commissioned Luca Silvestrini's Protein and Vicki Igbokwe's Uchenna Dance's to create the shows. It will be the first time Vicki Igbokwe has created a work for families, and the first time Luca Silvestrini has used an existing story as his starting point. The project also marks the first time The Place has commissioned a show for the festive season.

The Keir Choreographic Award is Australia's first major choreographic award presented by the Keir Foundation, Carriageworks and Dancehouse with the Australia Council. The Keir Choreographic Award is a national biennial award dedicated to commissioning short works and promoting innovative, experimental and cross-artform practices in contemporary dance. Toronto Dance Theatre (TDT) announces the details of its 2017-2018 season, celebrating 50 years of performance that have fundamentally changed the face of Canadian dance. Under the visionary direction of Christopher House, recently named to the Order of Canada, the season kicks off on September 21 with a program of works by TDT founders Patricia Beatty, David Earle and Peter Randazzo presented in partnership with Toronto Heritage Dance. The company then launches into international and national tours, including its first-ever visit to Colombia and a coast-to-coast tour of Western, Eastern and Northern Canada. In the early spring, TDT returns to the Fleck Dance Theatre with an exhilarating program of premieres created in response to Christopher House's masterwork Glass Houses (1983).
