The New York Times was first to report that celebratory plans have been set for the groundbreaking musical HAIR's 50th Anniversary which will take place on January 21, 2017 at La MaMa. The event will include original cast members (Natalie Mosco; Allan Nicholls; the Rev. Marjorie Lipari; and Dale Soules), Andre De Shields, the show's creators Galt MacDermot and James Rado and more.

As BroadwayWorld sadly reported earlier this week, Marni Nixon, perhaps best known for dubbing the singing voices of the leading actresses in films, including THE KING AND I, WEST SIDE STORY and MY FAIR LADY, passed away from breast cancer on July 24th. She was 86.

The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, Owner) have announced the winners of the 61st Annual Obie Awards. Rajiv Joseph's Guards at the Taj, produced by the Atlantic Theater Company, received the Obie Award® for Best New American Play, which is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Legendary actor/dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade and renowned playwright A.R. Gurney each received a special Obie Award® for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors Guild® Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street).

Actor/Playwright James Lecesne will be presenting a reading of his new play THE MOTHER OF INVENTION in a benefit reading to support the work of The Alzheimer's Family Support Center of Cape Cod. Directed by Tony Speciale, the reading will take place on April 25, 2016 at 7 p.m. at The Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street, NYC), featuring Linda Lavin, Susie Pourfar, Alfredo Narciso, Isabella Russo and Dale Soules.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present NY1 theater journalist Frank DiLella in the second episode of his new talk show, 'Show Biz After Hours With Frank DiLella.' The event was taped in front of a sold-out audience on Monday, January 11, with Frank's very special guest Jonathan Groff, who is currently starring on Broadway as King George in the smash hit HAMILTON. If there is one thing that's certain about Netflix's award-winning ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, it's that should the show ever get a musical episode or (dare we say) even a Broadway spin-off, the cast would have no problem making the transition.
Just last week it was announced that Emmy Award-nominated actress Laverne Cox will play Dr. Frank-N-Furter in THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, which is set to air Fall 2016 on FOX. That got us thinking about all of the other actresses of the OITNB ensemble who have already made names for themselves onstage. From hopeful hippies to talking teapots, these ladies have taken on a wide variety of Broadway roles, whether you realized it or not! Lincoln Center Theater presents Patti LuPone, Dale Soules, Michael Urie, Jordan Dean, Lance Coadie Williams, and Zoe Winters in Shows For Days, a new play by Douglas Carter Beane, directed by Jerry Zaks. The production opened, June 29 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street), and it closes tonight, August 23.
