Set against the backdrop of 1930's depression-era New York, Redmond draws parallels between pre-revolution Russia and a country quickly losing its grasp on the American Dream.

When a stranger arrives in the midst of a ragged bunch of outcasts, spinning tales of hope and redemption, his 'beautiful lies' soon begin to expose some dark and painful truths.
