The One Minute Play Festival returns to the New Ohio for the 3rd Annual New York City Indie Theatre One Minute Play Festival - with part of the proceeds to benefit the New Ohio's new play and artist residency programming.
Brooklyn Gypsies presents the second-annual One Catches Light Festival, celebrating new solo work of five writers associated with the company, hosted by Olander 'Big O' Wilson. Icarus in the L.E.S. is a kaleidoscopic performance-poem by Nic Adams, with the wax-winged hero chasing his destiny and scouting out the divide between artistic achievement and personal happiness.

Roundabout Theatre Company and Columbia University School of the Arts have announced the winners of Columbia@Roundabout's New Play Reading Series.
Clinton Hill cultural hub and OBIE award-winner JACK launches its winter/spring 2016 season with an a cappella opera set in Zimbabwe by composer Tanyaradzwa Tawengwa, a weekend of curated works by Modesto "Flako" Jimenez, the premiere of the dirty and bracing play Tom & Eliza, by Celine Song, the English-language premiere of Argentinian playwright Rafael Spregelburd's SPAM, The Geneva Project by Jennifer Harrison Newman, Antonio Ramos' Thirsty Mind, love and starvation sitting in a lonely tree and an exploration in minimalist/pop art performance by the No Face Performance Group. JACK also engineers the return of Walter Dundervill's ARENA (which had two sold-out runs at JACK in 2014 and 2015).
Now in it's seventh season, the Obie Award winning The Fire This Time Festival is pleased to announce the play readings for their 2016 festival, which will run January 18-February 6 at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery). In addition to play readings the 2016 festival will also feature 10-minute plays directed by Nicole A. Watson, excerpts of solo shows, excerpts from the plays developed in the inaugural writer's group, and a panel discussion.
Now in it's sixth season, The Fire This Time Festival will welcome seven new playwrights into the family, January 19-February 8 at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery). These playwrights will present an evening of ten-minute plays, each inspired by one of Alex Harsley's original photographs. This year's festival will also feature the World Premiere of Nathan Yungerberg's play Pousada Azul, directed by Russel G. Jones (Father Comes Home from the Wars at The Public). Special events will include a play reading series, an open mic night, a movie screening, and a panel discussion on art and activism. Aziza Barnes (me Aunt Jemima and the nailgun, published by Button Poetry Press), Rod Gailes OBC (COLORS: Dream Of the MASTA), Julienne L. Hairston (Ababuo in Project Y's Racey Play Reading Festival), Daaimah Mubashshir (Video Clare with Manhattan Repertory Theatre), Azure D. Osborne-Lee (member of EMERGENYC and Rising Circle Theater Collective's INKtank), Larry Powell (Dreams of a Prophet) and James Anthony Tyler (Some Old Black Man starring Arthur French at La MaMa). These playwrights will present an evening of ten-minute plays, each inspired by one of Alex Harsley's original photographs. More of Harsley's pieces will be featured at the TFTT festival kick-off event this fall, in which he and the playwrights will be introduced to the Horse Trade Theater Group and 4th Street Arts Block community.
For the 17th consecutive year, the Alley Theatre is providing young playwrights the chance to improve and expand their writing skills with its summer program, Houston Young Playwrights Exchange (HYPE). Six plays by local teens have been selected to undergo development in a professional forum guided by the Alley's staff, with the program culminating in a two-day public showcase of their work as staged readings - 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 17 and 2:30 p.m. pm Sunday, August 18 on the Neuhaus Stage. Some plays contain adult language and adult situations.
