A staged reading of Steve Yockey's Blackberry Winter, presented by Orlando Shakespeare Theater (Orlando Shakes) in Partnership with UCF as a part of UCF Celebrates the Arts, will appear April 9, 2018 in the Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater. This production of Blackberry Winter originally appeared at Orlando Shakes in 2017, after the script was featured as a reading at the Theater's PlayFest 2014. To raise awareness of caregiving in its various forms for Alzheimer's, dementia, and other conditions, the reading will be followed by a post-show talkback with the playwright, caregivers, and performers. Theatre UCF is replacing the previously scheduled play The Day Before Yesterday with Rebecca Gilman's Boy Gets Girl to run Feb. 22-March 4. The decision to change the play was made after the writer of The Day Before Yesterday, Israel Horovitz, was accused by nine women of sexual misconduct. Horovitz had been scheduled to attend UCF's performance.

This past Sunday, UCF faculty members Belinda (Be) Boyd, Cynthia White and Sybil St. Claire hosted a female playwrights panel as part of "UCF Celebrates the Arts." Boyd and St. Claire provided insight on playwriting, while White offered advice from the developmental perspective.
