Today Festival Director Fergus Linehan unveiled the 2016 Edinburgh International Festival programme. This year's International Festival runs from Friday 5 to Monday 29 August, welcoming 2,442 artists from 36 nations to perform in Scotland's capital city.
?Charlotte Ballet board of trustees selected Hope Muir, currently the assistant artistic director of Scottish Ballet, as Charlotte Ballet's new artistic director. Muir's appointment is effective July 2017. Over the next year she will work closely with the board of trustees and staff in preparation for the 2017/2018 Season, her first as artistic director.
The 2016 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, a prestigious honor that carries a $25,000 cash prize, will be presented to contemporary choreographer, dancer, and artistic director Camille A. Brown in acknowledgement of her vision and outstanding contributions to the dance field. Regularly garnering acclaim for her 'vividness and versatility' (Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times), Brown holds a New York Dance and Performance ('Bessie') Award, two Princess Grace Awards, a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, and her work has toured nationally and internationally. The Jacob's Pillow Dance Award was established in 2007 and, in honor of its 10th anniversary, the Pillow has broadened the scope of this honor with a commitment to the artist's growth and future work. In addition to the unrestricted cash prize, this Award also includes a committed engagement for the 2017 Festival and a Creative Development Residency at Jacob's Pillow. Previous recipients of the Jacob's Pillow Dance Award include the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham; MacArthur Fellows Michelle Dorrance and Kyle Abraham; and John Heginbotham of Dance Heginbotham, among others.

SEATTLE, WA – For the second program of its 43rd season, Pacific Northwest Ballet provides a crystal-ball look at the next generation of dance makers with EMERGENCE, a program of four contemporary works. PNB audiences have been counting the days until they could see Crystal Pite's Emergence again, and PNB dancers have felt the same way. Kiyon Gaines' Sum Stravinsky was another immediate favorite when it debuted in PNB's 2012 ALL PREMIERE program. The Calling, a haunting work by choreographer Jessica Lang, artistic director of Jessica Lang Dance, receives its PNB season premiere, alongside a world premiere by PNB's own Price Suddarth. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, under the artistic direction of Glenn Edgerton, announces today its second mainstage engagement of the 2015-16 dance season. December 10-13, 2015 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, the Season 38 Winter Series featurxes the Hubbard Street premiere and first production by a U.S. dance company of Solo Echo by Crystal Pite, originally created for Nederlands Dans Theater in 2012. Inspired by poet Mark Strand's Lines for Winter and set to excerpts from two sonatas for cello and piano by Johannes Brahms, opuses 38 and 99, Solo Echo is exemplary of the fluidity with which Pite's choreography shifts between dance and theater, using classical and contemporary techniques.
