The National Theatre has announced its May-September 2018 season.

Rehane Abrahams's bold and provocative one-hander Womb of Fire, directed by Sara Matchett, comes to the Baxter Golden Arrow Studio for a short season, from 18 April to 5 May at 8.15pm.

War Horse, based on Michael Morpurgo's beloved novel, a remarkable story of courage, loyalty and friendship, will return to the National Theatre 11 years after its NT debut for a limited run in November 2018. War Horse at the NT marks the centenary of the Armistice which brought World War I to an end.

New casting announced for the new National Theatre season. Full cast has been announced for Brian Friel's Translations including Colin Morgan and Ciaran Hinds, part of the Travelex season with thousands of tickets available at £15. Eric Kofi Abrefa and Thalissa Teixeira join Vanessa Kirby in the cast of Julie, part of the Travelex season with thousands of tickets available at £15. Sam Mendes directs The Lehman Trilogy, a co-production with Neal Street Productions, cast includes Adam Godley, Ben Miles and Simon Russell Beale. Full casting is announced for the award winning An Octoroon by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, transferring to the National Theatre in a co-production with the Orange Tree Theatre. The NT will tour to 30 venues in 27 towns and cities across the UK and Ireland, for a total of 83 playing weeks over the next year. Rufus Norris' Macbeth to tour to 18 venues across the UK and Ireland from autumn 2018. War Horse returns to the National Theatre marking the centenary of Armistice Day.

As WAR HORSE opens its 10th Anniversary Tour tonight (3 October) at The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, it is announced that due to demand, the National Theatre's critically-acclaimed production will return to the venue from 27 February - 16 March 2019.

South African theatre legend Jennie Reznek returns to the stage tonight in her hugely popular production, I TURNED AWAY AND SHE WAS GONE. There will be four special performances of this acclaimed one-woman show at the Magnet Theatre in Observatory, Cape Town, after which the production will transfer to the main programme of the National Arts Festival in early July.

The National Theatre's today (17 May 2017 ) announced the 34 strong cast for its acclaimed production of War Horse which begins a major tour of the UK on 15 September 2017.

One of South Africa's longest standing and most celebrated theatre companies, Magnet Theatre, presents two new works: 23 YEARS, A MONTH AND 7 DAYS by Nwabisa Plaatjie and KUDU by Lwanda Sindaphi. The productions are the culmination of Magnet's year-long theatre-making internship programme.

With the Muizenberg Festival having kicked off its week-long run yesterday, ASSITEJ SA is delighted to stage three dynamic performances this coming weekend: UNMUTE, PAIRED and PATCHWORK.

Piecing together a new mythology is an audacious undertaking, and yet it is an act that is at the very heart of theatre-making: the building of a new world, with its own origins and order, that only becomes fully realised when an audience believes in it. THE FIREBIRD attempts just that, telling a post-apartheid South African story against the backdrop of a created mythology.

An innovative new puppet and dance production of THE FIREBIRD, featuring Igor Stravinsky's original score, will head to the Artscape Opera House, the National Arts Festival and the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. 

Words are perhaps inadequate repositories to record the visceral emotional experience of watching I TURNED AWAY AND SHE WAS GONE. It has to be seen. You have to live through it. And when you have, you too will see how I TURNED AWAY AND SHE WAS GONE continues to live in you, just as it has in me.

On 25 February, Magnet Theatre hosts a special performance of II TURNED AWAY AND SHE WAS GONE. Audience members will have the unique opportunity to share the insights and experiences of a panel of respected authors, artists, writers and storytellers at a post-show discussion. The production starts at the slightly earlier time of 19:00 on that evening.
