According to The Washington Post, Molly Smith, artistic director of Arena Stage has signed on to direct a production of Eric Coble's THE VELOCITY OF AUTUMN on Broadway in the Spring of 2013, a production that'll mark Broadway debuts for both. Lead producer Larry Kaye has said that signed on to star will be Estelle Parsons and Stephen Spinella.

The Theatre School at DePaul University will present A WRINKLE IN TIME, by Madeleine L'Engle, adapted by John Glore, and directed by Ernie Nolan, as the first installment of the 2012-2013 Chicago Playworks for Families and Young Audiences Series. This production opens Tuesday, October 23, and runs through Saturday, December 1, 2012, at DePaul's historic Merle Reskin Theatre. Performances are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 10 AM and Saturdays at 2 PM. There will be no performances on November 20, 22, 23, or 24. An additional performance will be held on November 28 at 10AM.

The Coterie will launch its 34th season of live theatre tonight, September 8 with the pop rock musical Spring Awakening, the winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. The show will feature a cast of powerful, young musical theatre performers from the Kansas City area and can be seen in a series of evening shows and Saturday matinees. Spring Awakening is based on the 1891 play of the same name by German playwright Frank Wedekind and explores what has changed-and what hasn't-on the path to understanding sex.

The Theatre School at DePaul University has announced that a national search has led to the appointment of Ricardo A. Bracho as the Visiting Multicultural Faculty Member for the upcoming academic year. Also, a national search was conducted for an Assistant Professor position in the Theatre Studies department. This full-time, tenure track position was accepted by Ernie Nolan, who has been teaching, directing, and mentoring in various capacities at the school for three years.

"Our 34th season will be another ambitious one for the Coterie. The Coterie's Lab for New Family Musicals will host an awesome holiday production and work with the composing/writing team behind Shrek the Musical to create the premiere Theatre for Young Audiences version," said Jeff Church, producing artistic director. "There will be several wonderful productions based on books: Christopher Paul Curtis' Bud Not Buddy, Lois Lowry's Number the Stars and a piece based on Scholastic's Dear America Series.

It's the Coterie Theatre's favorite time of the year: world premiere readings from some of Kansas City's most talented teen playwrights will be showcased during the Annual Young Playwrights' Festival at 7 p.m. tonight, May 9 and tomorrow May 10 at the Coterie Theatre, level 1, Crown Center Shops. Professional actors, directors and designers work to present a collection of seven staged readings, plays and monologues from teen members of the Coterie's Young Playwrights' Roundtable.
