BWW Previews: BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK Comes to the Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City Tonight

The comedy about Hollywood stereotypes, By the Way, Meet Vera Stark comes to the Unicorn Theatre tonight, June 4, with opening night on June 7. Missy Koonce directs the Unicorn production written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage. Nottage won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2009 for her play Ruined. At the time, she wrote Ruined she was working on a second project, which ended up being By the Way, Meet Vera Stark.

Profile Theatre's BURIED CHILD Begins Tonight

PROFILE THEATRE presents BURIED CHILD Sam Shepard's macabre play about twisted family secrets, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1979. Directed by Adriana Baer, performances begin tonight, May 29, 2014 on the Alder Stage at Artists Repertory Theatre.

With the summer months, just ahead most of the professional theater companies in Kansas City will be closing down their 2013-2014 season. Through the summer, local community theaters will be staging productions, but there is still time to see the end of this year's season.

BWW Review: WHITE SANGRIA Opens at the KC Melting Pot

The KC Melting Pot production of White Sangria opened Friday night at the Just Off Broadway Theatre in Kansas City, Mo to a sparse audience. Harvey Williams the founder of the KC Melting Pot, which is in its inaugural season, directs the play written by Arika Larson. The 2011 Kansas City Fringe Festival, where it won best-selling show in its venue, introduced audiences to White Sangria. Foreign Bodies by Larson premieres at the Artist's Movement later this year in New York.

BWW Reviews: THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL Brings Roars of Laughter to Quality Hill Playhouse

You get song, you get dance, and the only thing that is missing is seltzer in your pants. The Musical of Musicals: The Musical! is one of the funniest productions to appear on the Quality Hill Playhouse stage. The musical with lyrics by Joanne Bogart, music by Eric Rockwell and stage direction by Rick Truman is performed in five sidesplitting acts. Each paying homage to composers and lyricist teams, all dealing with the same melodrama plot centering on a woman who cannot pay her rent.

If you have seen the current performance of Schoolhouse Rock Live! at The Coterie, or if you have not seen it and are 13 years old or older you should see it again. The Musical of Musical (The Musical!) opens on April 25 at the Quality Hill Playhouse in Kansas City. BWW Reviews: ROCK OF AGES the Theme for Musical Monday in Kansas City

Rock of Ages the theme for Musical Monday, presented by Musical Theater Heritage, played on the stage at the Off Center Theatre on April 14. Kristin Hanggi the Tony Award nominated Broadway director is in Kansas City for the production. Hangii came on stage to talk about the songs and the production of the Broadway musical. She holds a Masterclass for Musical Theater Heritage on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Musical Monday, usually a one-night show, runs for a second night on Tuesday April 15.

BWW Preview: WATER BY THE SPOONFUL Coming to the Unicorn Theatre, 4/23

The Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City, Mo. presents Water by the Spoonful, April 23 through May 18. The play written by Quiara Alergria Hudes and directed by Mark Robbins will run on the Jerome Stage at 3828 Main. Water by the Spoonful won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and playwright Hudes won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical for In the Heights.

BWW Review: SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE! Rocks at the Coterie

Whoever says that learning is not fun, has not seen Schoolhouse Rock Live at the Coterie Theatre in Kansas City? Schoolhouse Rock Live opened Friday night April 11 to a sold-out house. The show is without a doubt the best production of an already fantastic season, but they are not done yet with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang coming in June.

The 2012 Tony Award Nominee for Best Play and Pulitzer Prize for Drama finalist, Other Desert Cities, comes to the Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City tonight, March 5 through 30. Saturday March 8 is opening night of the play directed by Sidonie Garrett. She has previously directed numerous plays at the Unicorn Theatre, The Coterie, and American Heartland Theatre among others.

BWW Review: GEEK MYTHOLOGY: I WAS A TEENAGE IMMORTAL opens at the Coterie Theatre in Kansas City

Zeus is alive and playing rock-n-roll guitar in Geek Mythology: I Was a Teenage Immortal, now playing at the Coterie Theatre in Kansas City. Tailored for an audience of fifth to ninth graders, yet very entertaining for adults, the world premiere musical by playwright Jeff Carey opened on Friday night February 28. Directed by Tosin Morohunfola the music is by Jessica Jackson, from a book by Carey who also wrote the lyrics.

Victory Gardens' THE GOSPEL OF LOVINGKINDNESS Begins Tonight

Victory Gardens Theater presents the World Premiere of The Gospel of Lovingkindness by Victory Gardens Ensemble Playwright Marcus Gardley, directed by Artistic Director Chay Yew. The cast includes Cheryl Lynn Bruce, Tosin Morohunfola, Ernest Perry, Jr. and Jacqueline Williams. The Gospel of Lovingkindness runs tonight, February 28 - March 30, 2014, with the press performance on March 7, 2014, at Victory Gardens Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue.
