'The Coterie Theatre' has opened a new and clever retelling of the classic 1734 English fairy tale about a boy, a giant, and a magic beanstalk. For adults, the enduring charm of 'The Coterie' is seeing a gaggle of squirmy preschoolers and primary schoolers morph into a rapt and respectful audience as soon as house lights begin to dim. The kids sit in bunches on the carpeted floor next to the stage and chatter and wrestle (sometimes restrained by concerned parents - sometimes not) waiting for the show to begin.

Award-winning pioneer playwright Qui Nguyen brilliantly chronicles the love story of his parents' meeting in an Arkansas refugee center after fleeing Vietnam after the fall of Saigon in 1975. It's a buddy story, an all-American romance, and a motorcycle road-trip adventure that reexamines how we think about the heroes and victims of the Vietnam War. Vietgone skips through time and roams the globe with snarky humor, hip-hop, and lots of sex. It's one ironic, foul-mouthed, bad-ass new play.

TheatreSquared will begin performances of It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, inspired by Frank Capra's classic film, on November 29th. Performed as a 1940s radio broadcast in front of a studio audience, the show will run for five weeks, with special performances on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. In Joe Landry's celebrated adaptation, it's Christmas Eve, 1946, and six actors have gathered in a studio at WMAQ, ready to take on dozens of characters and recreate Bedford Falls with live foley sound effects and virtuosic, high-energy performances. Through a redemptive story that has proven timeless, George Bailey, standing on the brink of despair, famously learns that 'no man is a failure who has friends.
