Good morning, BroadwayWorld! Because we know all our readers eat, sleep and breathe Broadway, what could be better than waking up to it? Today's big news: Three shows -- SMOKEFALL, ANGEL REAPERS and HER REQUIEM -- open off-Broadway, and the Dramatists Guild Awards are presented today!

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, following a critically acclaimed, hit world premiere engagement at Paper Mill Playhouse this fall, The Bandstand will open on Broadway in the 2016 - 2017 season starring Tony Award® nominee Laura Osnes(Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella) and Corey Cott (Newsies). Directed and choreographed by Tony Award® winner Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, In the Heights), The Bandstand features music by Richard Oberacker and a book and lyrics by Richard Oberacker and Robert Taylor. The critically acclaimed play THE WOODSMAN, a uniquely inventive retelling of the origins of Oz's Tin Woodsman, officially opened last night, February 8, 2016, at Off-Broadway's New World Stages - Stage 5 (340 West 50th Street). The lineup is complete for Broadway Sings Billy Joel, the 10th installment of the star-studded BROADWAY SINGS concert series. A cast of 20 Broadway stars will sing completely new arrangements of the Piano Man's greatest hits. The performers will be accompanied by a jazz orchestra playing original orchestrations. Previous artists honored in the series include Adele, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, and Sara Bareilles.

Growing up in a pretty big town in Georgia has had a lot of perks. One of them includes the amount of amazing school theatre programs we have in the area around us, and it's inspiring to see others working hard as you while balancing tedious hours of homework and studying and maybe even a job. Then there are also the community theatre productions, whether it is at the church down the street or at a cool studio you've heard so many people praising. Opportunity has always been available around me. Still, there's the question of what to do with my free time. Do I audition for the big school musical, or do I test the waters at a creative theater down the street with a director I've never worked with? Maybe you've had the same dilemma as a young, aspiring theatre nerd. Both have their advantages. It's up to the artist to decide.

Stage and screen stars Darren Criss (Glee, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Newsies, Tuck Everlasting), Ben Platt ("Pitch Perfect", Dear Evan Hansen), Tony-nominated composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dear Evan Hansen, A Christmas Story, Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach), Philip McAdoo (The Lion King and Rent), Brad Simmons ("Camp", Lysistrata Jones), Jacob Brent (Cats); Cory Lingner (On the Town), and writing team Kate Anderson and Elyssa Samsel (Camp-Wish-No-More, My Little Brony) are some of the talent confirmed for the 2016 Junior Theater Festival (#JTF16), it was announced today by Timothy Allen McDonald, founding chairman of iTheatrics and the Junior Theater Group.

To life! The Broadway revival of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF just opened Sunday night, December 20 at The Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway), wrapping up the 2015 Broadway season. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, and choreographed by Hofesh Shechter. BroadwayWorld was there for all of the opening night festivities and you can check out coverage from the red carpet below!

BroadwayWorld has learned that the Bud Music App is releasing a new Christmas carol each day until December 25th, recorded by Broadway's best. So far, Corey Cott, Tony Sheldon, Apollo Link, Grace McLean and Krystina Alabado have all contributed holiday hits.

'The Cleveland Musical Theatre' and 'Making It on Broadway' may not mean much to many in the local community, but soon, if Sean Patrick and Miles Sternfeld have their way, those organizations will become a regular part of the Cleveland theater agenda.

Watts and Betsy Wolfe (along with singer-songwriters Jane Kelly Williams and Shaina Taub) celebrate the holidays and raise funds for much needed repairs for the historic Church of St Paul and St. Andrew. This evening, December 14, 'RAISE THE ROOF: A Broadway Holiday-ish Benefit Celebration' will be filled with song, poetry and jubilee from this all-star lineup.
