MEX I AM: LIVE IT TO BELIEVE IT to Run 7/19-26 in San Francisco

The Mexican Foreign Ministry, the National Council for Culture and the Arts (Conaculta), and Mexico's Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR), in collaboration with SFJAZZ, announces the second edition of MEX I AM: LIVE IT TO BELIEVE IT, a multidisciplinary art and cultural Festival that will run July 19-26, 2015, at different venues across the San Francisco Bay Area. Thanks to the efforts of the Mexican Government and contributions from Festival sponsors, most of the week's activities, which are open to the public, will be free.

The final recording and complete box set of The Nielsen Project - the New York Philharmonic's acclaimed multi-season survey of the six symphonies and three concertos by Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) - will be released today, June 9, 2015, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth.

New York Philharmonic to Release Complete Box Set of THE NIELSEN PROJECT, 6/9

The final recording and complete box set of The Nielsen Project - the New York Philharmonic's acclaimed multi-season survey of the six symphonies and three concertos by Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) - will be released June 9, 2015, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth. The final recording features Nielsen's complete concertos: the Flute Concerto with Principal Flute Robert Langevin, Clarinet Concerto with Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill, and Violin Concerto with Danish violinist Nikolaj Znaider.

American soprano Renee Fleming has been awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit by President of the Federal Republic of Germany Joachim Gauck, for her 'outstanding work in German-American relations.' The award is the only federal decoration given by Germany. It was be presented at a private reception at the New York residence of the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Brita Wagener, last night, Thursday, March 12. Scroll down for photos!

Ramon Tebar Named Principal Guest Conductor of Spain's Renowned Plau de les Arts Reina Sofia

Valencia-born conductor Ramon Tebar was named Principal Guest Conductor of Spain's Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in a triple-post announcement about the leadership and direction of the renowned international house. Tebar joins celebrated Italian conductors Roberto Abbado and Fabio Biondi , who have been named co-Music Directors, of the new leadership. The posts begin this coming 2015- 16 season.

Alan Gilbert to Conduct Clarinet Concerto as Part of NIELSEN PROJECT in 2015

The New York Philharmonic and Alan Gilbert will conclude The Nielsen Project - the Philharmonic's acclaimed multi-season survey of the six symphonies and three concertos by Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) - with Nielsen's Clarinet Concerto, featuring newly appointed Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill in his Philharmonic debut.

Warsaw's Ester Rachel and Ida Kaminska State Jewish Theater to Make First NYC Appearance Since 1980s

The Shalom Foundation and New York's National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene, currently in its historic 100th season, will present The Ester Rachel and Ida Kaminska State Jewish Theater from Warsaw, Poland to New York audiences. This is the first time the Polish Yiddish Theater company, also known as The State Jewish Theater, has toured in North America since the 1980's.

The American Society of the University of Haifa held it's 2014 Gala at the American Museum of Natural History last night. Jamie deRoy was the Master of Ceremonies and introduced Ambassador Ido Aharoni,Consul General of Israel who spoke, as well as other dignitaries from the University. At the podium were Yariv Sultan VP, Professor Alfred I. Tauber, Chairman Board of Governors, and Yefet Ozery National Executive Director of ASUH. Sandra Frankel represented the Leona M. and Harry B Helmsley Charitable Trust was presented a Carmel Award of Merit by Leon H. Charney. Audrey Gruss was also presented a Carmel Award which was presented by Professor Alfred I. Tauber. There was a musical performance by Israeli artists Guy Mintus, pianist/compser and opera singer Maya Yahav Gour.

It was fitting that the World Premiere of "A Voice Among the Silent" was held in the only United States synagogue to be honored with a papal visit in 2008, when Pope Benedict XVI was hosted by the the congregation and Rabbi Arthur Schneier. This eye opening documentary about James McDonald, the son of Catholic immigrants, was almost lost to history until his meticulously kept diaries were discovered in 2003.

OPERATHON 2014, Lyric Opera of Chicago's annual live-radio marathon fundraiser on 98.7WFMT, celebrated its 35th anniversary by raising more than $550,000 (gross) during its 16-hour broadcast on Saturday, October 11.

The Toronto Operetta Theatre Presents the Canadian Premiere of LA GRAN VIA, 11/2

A champion of music theatre in all its diversity, Toronto Operetta Theatrepresents the Canadian Premiere of the Spanish zarzuela, LA GRAN VIA by Chueca and Valverde onSunday, November 2, 2014 at 2 pm at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts. Premiered at Teatro Felipe in 1886, this renowned zarzuela is a bold mixture of comic fantasy, social comment, political satire and the indelible music of Spain. The work was inspired by the creation of a gleaming new avenue in the heart of Madrid - La Gran Via – a thoroughfare that has become as famous as London's Piccadilly or Broadway in New York. “We have taken Chueca's short form zarzuela or genero chico” says Guillermo Silva-Marin, “and added well-known works from other zarzuela masters…just as was done during that time in Madrid.” The full afternoon will be a musical revue in the grand manner of the world's most exciting entertainment centres.

World Premiere of A VOICE AMONG THE SILENT Will Be Held in NYC on 10/19

Caroline Sorokoff, Director of the Gold Coast International Film Festival announced today that 'A Voice Among the Silent: The Legacy of James G. McDonald,' a new documentary by Shuli Eshel about James G. McDonald, a U.S. diplomat who helped rescue Jewish refugees from the Nazis, will have its world premiere in New York with two showings on October 19th and 20th, 2014.
