Oakland East Bay Symphony and Music Director Michael Morgan continue their 25th anniversary season Friday, January 24, 2014, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland with cellist David Requiro on a program featuring a host of evocative music. The young cellist will perform Kabalevsky's second Cello Concerto on a program with Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet overture, late Bay Area composer Conrad Susa's The Blue Hour and Elgar's 'Enigma' Variations. Requiro returns to Oakland East Bay Symphony after a successful performance of the Dvo?ák Cello Concerto in 2012. In 2002, Hairspray was The 5th Avenue Theatre's first world premiere musical to head for Broadway where it won the 2003 Tony Award for Best Musical and launched The 5th's unprecedented track record for sending new works to New York. Now the smash hit musical comes home, as audiences have never seen it before.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale - the renowned resident choir of Walt Disney Concert Hall led by Music Director Grant Gershon - and KUSC (91.5 FM) - one of the largest and most listened to classical radio stations in the country - have announced a two-year broadcast partnership in which 14 of the acclaimed choir's Disney Hall concerts from the 2009|10, 2010|11 and 2011|12 seasons will air in two seven-week series, entitled 'The LA Master Chorale in Concert,' with the first series launching Sunday, December 19, 2010 and running through January 30, 2010.
