The inspiration for A&E's "Longmire" finds himself in the crosshairs in the ninth book of the New York Times bestselling series

The success of Craig Johnson's unique genre-bending Western-Suspense series that began with "The Cold Dish" continues to grow after A&E's hit show "Longmire" introduced new fans to Wyoming sheriff Walt Longmire. Johnson's last book "As the Crow Flies" marked the series' highest debut on the New York Times bestseller list. Now, in his ninth Western mystery, Longmire stares down his most dangerous foes yet.

It's homecoming in Absaroka County, but the football and festivities are interrupted when a homeless boy wanders into town. A Mormon "lost boy," Cord Lynear is searching for his missing mother but clues are scarce. Longmire and his companions, feisty deputy Victoria Moretti and longtime friend Henry Standing Bear, embark on a high plains scavenger hunt in hopes of reuniting mother and son. The trail leads them to an interstate polygamy group that's presiding over a stockpile of weapons and harboring a vicious vendetta.

Craig Johnson lives in Ucross, Wyoming, population 25. He is a recipient of the Wyoming Governor's Fellowship Award for Literature and is an Honorable Colonel of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. His Walt Longmire mystery series has been adapted for television in a joint venture between A&E and Warner Horizon. "Longmire" is directed by Chris Chulack ("Southland," "ER") and stars Robert Taylor ("Matrix," "Vertical Limit") as Sheriff Walt Longmire, Lou Diamond Phillips ("La Bamba," "Young Guns") as Henry Standing Bear and Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica," "24") as Vic Moretti.

Program sites are accessible. Upon two weeks notice, accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities. Contact St. Louis County Library by phone 314-994-3300 or visit http://www.slcl.org.
