4th Edition of The Americas Film Festival of New York to Open 6/8

The fourth edition of The Americas Film Festival of New York (TAFFNY), June 8-16, 2017, showcases feature films in fiction and documentary as well as shorts and animations that represent the rich diversity of cultures, languages and stories of the Americas.

Newark Area Elementary Students to Perform at NJPAC Next Week

Elementary students from B.R.I.C.K. Peshine Academy, Oliver Street School and Rafael Hernandez School of Performing Arts (all in Newark), Colin Powell Elementary School (Union City), and Forest Street School (Orange) will be given the extraordinary opportunity to perform on the spectacular concert hall stage of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) on Monday, February 13, to present their Disney Musicals in Schools Student Share production.

Convergence Continuum to Present World Premiere of THE KNIFE IS MONEY, THE FORK IS LOVE

Convergence-continuum concludes its 2016 Season with the world premiere of Cleveland playwright Jonathan Wilhelm's noir comedy mystery thriller, THE KNIFE IS MONEY, THE FORK IS LOVE. It's 1932, and Tobias, a young man enamored with radio serials and pulp fiction, receives a puzzling package which leads him on a search for the members of a secret society. In the theater, meanwhile, a group of actors struggle to provide historical context and work with the audience to solve Tobias' Depression-era enigma. Confusion, and much comedy, ensues as both the characters and actors try to untangle this mysterious and thrilling tale for us.

The National Civil Rights Museum Announces 25th Freedom Award

Today, the National Civil Rights Museum announced recipients of The Freedom Award, the museum's signature event that honors outstanding individuals for their significant contributions to civil and human rights. This year's honorees are Benjamin Crump, civil rights attorney; Tawakkol Karman, Yemeni human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate; The Honorable Damon Jerome Keith, longest serving judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Court; Soledad O'Brien, journalist and executive producer; and Bryan Stevenson, attorney and social justice activist.

The American Secretary of Defence, Donald Rumsfeld's famous response to the looting of Baghdad at a press conference in April 2003 provided the title for David Hare's play. First performed at the NT in 2004, the play explores the extraordinary events leading up to the invasion of Iraq.

BWW Review: STUFF HAPPENS, National Theatre, 6 July 2016

When Sir John Chilcot stepped up to the mic to deliver his long-awaited verdict on the 2003 invasion of Iraq, he did so calmly, steadily, but with forensic and devastating analytical precision. David Hare's STUFF HAPPENS, which beat Chilcot to the punch by some 12 years, is similarly measured, mixing detailed documentary re-enactment with imagining of what went on behind closed doors.
