Hershey Area Playhouse is proud to host the talented musicians from the Milton Hershey School and Hershey High School, as part of its third annual Sweet Sounds concert on Saturday, Nov. 5, beginning at 7 p.m.

The Milton Hershey School (MHS) Guitar Ensemble under the direction of Randal Rhodes will kick-off the concert. The MHS Guitar Ensemble is a select group of Senior Division students, who perform throughout the year for school and community events. These instrumental and vocal performers have a wide and varied repertoire, including classic rock, pop, and original music.

Following the MHS Guitar Ensemble, a select group of Hershey High School (HHS) String Orchestra members, comprised of juniors and seniors, will be performing a variety of selections under the direction of Greg Woodbridge.

MHS's New Horizons vocal group, comprised of students in grades 9-12, will follow, offering Broadway and popular tunes. Featuring four-part harmonies, New Horizons has been in existence since 1980, and is the premier vocal group at MHS. As an extracurricular activity, students practice once a week for two hours. The group is under the direction of Kent Pierce, and accompanied by Haw-Ru Lin.

New Horizons has performed many functions locally and for prominent public figures, such as former Secretary of State Colin Powell, retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, and even as background vocalists for tenor Josh Groban. The group performs approximately 25 times per year, and this year's show theme involves a flamenco feel.

The Sweet Sounds concert, which is the sixth Dark Night Series production The Playhouse has hosted this year, will culminate with all three groups performing several numbers together.

The event will be held at The Playhouse, located at the corner of Sand Hill Road and Cherry Drive, Hershey.

Tickets are $15 and are available via The Playhouse's website, www.HersheyAreaPlayhouse.com or by calling The Playhouse's box office at 717-533-8525.

The Playhouse adopted the term "Dark Night," a term used by theatres when there is not a performance scheduled, a few years ago as part of a vision to incorporate a wider variety of entertainment to complement its five mainstage shows. The Playhouse is relaunching its Dark Night Series in 2016, bringing additional entertainment options, including different, edgier content shows to its mainstage. It will also include musical acts, as well as original works, comedy acts, and special events.
