Waves of good and bad news washed over tonight's 'So You Think You Can Dance' as host Cat Deeley and the show basked in the glow of the eight Emmy nominations that were announced earlier today. However, there were several gray clouds hovering about as two more dancers were sent home and, for the first time this season, the eliminated dancers were not part of the same pair. Another bit of sad news came when Judge/Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe announced early in the show that Season 7 fan favorite Alex Wong, who had to step out of competition last year due to a tendon injury on his right foot, suffered another tendon injury (this time on his left foot) this past weekend and would not be able to return to the show as an All-Star next week.
Outdoor events can be dicey propositions in any case, but rarely more so than on a July evening in Atlanta, where heat, humidity, and evening thunderstorms often combine to create miserable conditions. Not so on this night. As Atlanta's Chastain Park Amphitheater played host to Broadway legend Idina Menzel with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra-part of the Delta Airlines-sponsored Classic Chastain concert series-Mother Nature gave her blessing.

After self-releasing two albums over the past several years and receiving early praise from the likes of SPIN, The FADER, RCRD LBL, Brooklyn Vegan, and more, The Chain Gang of 1974 is ready to break out with Wayward Fire! Set for release June 21st on ModernArt, this is an album as restless as The Chain Gang of 1974's White Guts, an album which funneled three years of instrument-swapping, sample-splicing experience into a lean focused listen, but it melds the standout moments from that release into something wholly new and realized. In creating this new album, The Chain Gang of 1974's genre-jumping singer/multi-instrumentalist Kamtin Mohager moved from Denver to Los Angeles, severed the ties of the two-year relationship that fueled Wayward Fire, and raised the curtain on what's next, proving that this particular film has just begun.

Always edgy and never dull, Theatre Out--Orange County's Gay and Lesbian Theater company--has continually presented some interesting theater offerings since its remarkable debut in 2006. Its current production, a rambunctious revival of Andrew Lippa's topsy-turvy musical THE WILD PARTY, is no exception, as it corrals a huge pool of talents to tell the story of a bacchanal gone horribly, horribly awry. The show plays at the Empire Theatre in the Santa Ana Arts District through July 2.
