State Theatre Presents THE LEGEND OF SHANGRI LA, 6/22-26

Australia's State Theatre presents the diverse and fascinating cultural heritage of the Chinese Rhythm and Dance Sensation that is THE LEGEND OF SHANGRI LA June 22 through 26.

The Legend of Shangri-La is an exquisite visual feast that combines a surreal setting on stage with
dynamic lighting, music and a three-dimensional stage design. Simplicity, joy and warmth blend with the excitement and pageantry of huge drums that reflect the original beats and rhythms of their ancient beginnings.

Under the direction of Chinese living treasure Yang Liping, over 50 dancers and musicians tell the ancient stories of a culture as old as time. Hailed as a dance and choreography tour-de-force in her own country, Yang Liping, who will also dance in Shangri La, has created an extraordinary performance of traditional song and dance fused with modern choreography.

This is a story that takes us back to a world that was only beginning - a world where one could touch the clouds and listen to the mountains where nature and man lived in harmony.

Featuring 50 dancers and musicians, an amazing display of costumes and traditional masks, The Legend of Shangri La is a rich tapestry of ancient folklore, ethnic traditions and contemporary dance. Simplicity, joy and warmth blend with the excitement and pageantry of instruments featuring huge drums that reflect the original beats and rhythms of ancient beginnings.

The official opening of the Year of Chinese Culture in Australia, The Legend of Shangri La, is choreographed by Chinese Super Star Liping Yang, who will perform her universally renowned dance ‘Soul of the Peacock'.

Widely praised in its home country, award winning The Legend of Shangri La performed to critical acclaim in the USA and Japan. The Legend of Shangri La will be performing at the State Theatre, Sydney for a strictly limited time only.
