Chicago Sinfonietta Showcases New Works By Women Composers On PROJECT W

Music Director Mei-Ann Chen and the Chicago Sinfonietta - the adventurous, MacArthur Award-winning orchestra that champions racial, ethnic, and gender diversity in classical music - give world-premiere recordings of newly commissioned works by American Jennifer Higdon, Brazilian-American Clarice Assad, African-American Jessie Montgomery, and Indian-American Reena Esmail on Project W - Works by Diverse Women Composers.

Pontine Presents Peter Dimuro's PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF MOTION, 21-24 March

March 21-24, Pontine Theatre continues its premiere season at the Plains School, with performances by Peter Dimuro's Public Displays of Motion. The newly renovated Plains School, located at One Plains Avenue in Portsamouth's West End, is a collaboration between Pontine Theatre and the City of Portsmouth.

BWW Review: TWILIGHT BOWL at Goodman Theatre

TWILIGHT BOWL is a thoughtful and delicate examination of what it means for the young women in the play to find their places in the world, and the fact that 'making it' in life might look quite different for all of them. The play posits that there is no definitive definition of success and that the best outcome for these young women is to figure out where they fit for themselves.

Throwing Out My CDs by Ben Rimalower: THE WIZ

This week's decluttering is only freeing up a tiny bit of space in my collection, but it represents an enormous place in my heart. The only version of The Wiz I have on CD is the AMAZING/IF YOU DON'T KNOW IT, YOU'RE NOT A REAL BROADWAY FAN original cast album starring Stephanie Mills. I do have the movie soundtrack in my iTunes and the soundtrack of 'The Wiz Live!' is on Apple Music, so let's dive in.

Pulitzer Prize finalist and Goodman Artistic Associate Rebecca Gilman marks her ninth production (and seventh world premiere) with Twilight Bowl-featuring an all-female company. Set in a rural Wisconsin bowling alley, the coming-of-age story focuses on six women struggling to define their own version of success. Erica Weiss-co-creator and -executive producer of the upcoming CBS series The Red Line and former Goodman Theatre Michael Maggio Directing Fellow-directs the world-premiere production.

Broadway vet Jose Llana returned for the 20th season of Lincoln Center's American Songbook, four years after his sold-out appearance at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse. Llana performed in The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center and was joined by his Here Lies Love cast members Jaygee Macapugay, Jeigh Madjus, Renee Albulario and Billy Bustamante on February 1st.

Violist Matthew Lipman Makes Cedille Records Debut Featuring World-Premiere Recording Of Shostakovich's Impromptu, Op. 33

American violist Matthew Lipman, recipient of a 2015 Avery Fischer Career Grant, makes his Cedille label debut with 'Ascent,' an album featuring, in the artist's words, 'music enraptured by flights of fantasy,' including world-premiere recordings of Dmitri Shostakovich's recently discovered Impromptu for Viola and Piano, Op. 33, and Clarice Assad's 'Metamorfose,' which Lipman commissioned.

New York City duo, Dollshot, aka Rosie and Noah K., shared a video today for “Nacht und Träume”, a Schubert cover that closes out their new album, Lalande, which arrives on Friday – watch + share via YouTube.  To celebrate Lalande, Dollshot will perform next Monday, January 28 in Los Angeles, at Harvard & Stone, 10pm.
