RDT's 50th Anniversary to Continue with Live Music, 11/19-21

DANCENOWNYC continues its 20th anniversary celebration with the 2015 DANCENOW Joe's Pub Festival. Acclaimed for its adventurous short-takes format, the annual DANCENOW Festival presents a wide variety of work from some of today's most exciting choreographers. Continuing its focus on New York-based artists across generations, the 2015 Festival will feature short works by 50 emerging and established dance makers, all of whom DANCENOW has presented over the last twenty years.

2015 DANCENOW Joe's Pub Festival Slated for September

DANCENOWNYC continues its twentieth anniversary celebration with the 2015 DANCENOW Joe's Pub Festival. Acclaimed for its adventurous short-takes format, the annual DANCENOW Festival presents a wide variety of work from some of today's most exciting choreographers. Continuing its focus on New York-based artists across generations, the 2015 Festival will feature short works by 50 emerging and established dance makers, all of whom DANCENOW has presented over the last twenty years. The Festival will take place at Joe's Pub, Wednesday-Saturday, September 9-12, at 7pm, with an encore performance featuring a dozen producer picks on Thursday, September 24, at 7pm. 

Playwrights Theatre to Host Play Readings at Fairleigh Dickinson University

Playwrights Theatre has announced that is will host a plethora of new play reading events on the Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University. All readings will begin promptly at 7:00pm. Admission is free; however, reservations are required and can be made online at www.ptnj.org

Repertory Dance Theatre Sets 50th Anniversary Season

Repertory Dance Theatre is the nation's oldest and most successful repertory dance company. For 50 years, we've been pushing the boundaries of modern dance, while preserving its legacy. It was radical when a bunch of Utah modern dancers beat out the big city stalwarts to receive a Rockefeller grant establishing us as the nation's first repertory dance company. Today, we're just as revolutionary as we were in 1966.

Continuing the company's aggressive repertory expansion that explores the range of the male dancer, the four performances feature two programs with works by Julie Bour, David Dorfman and Dan Froot, Doug Elkins, Tiffany Mills, David Parker, Claire Porter and Randy James. Tickets are $20 for General Seating, $15 for students, seniors, artists, and New York Live Arts Members.

BWW Reviews: Claire Porter's PORTABLES - Dance is a Verb Among Other Things

Claire Porter's Portables acted as "grammarians," joyfully drowning in their words. Sen-tence, created by Porter et al, explored the syntax of language structure at Joe's Pub Friday, April 25th, 2014. In five vignettes, Porter's ensemble dedicated themselves to the most basic and yet often most important words of everyday vocabulary: prepositions, conjunctions, adverbs, and pronouns. As Ms. Porter's librarian character admonished the audience, "What would we be without…without. Or, over, under, next to, behind, during, and between."
