As part of their 50th anniversary celebration, Repertory Dance Theatre presents choreographer and comedienne, Claire Porter in PORTABLES on August 22, 2015 at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.

PORTABLES is a collection of funny and poignant character sketches that have left a lasting, laugh-out-loud impression on audiences across the U.S. and around the globe. Known for her character sketches, her pieces find a specific character in a real situation as a springboard for investigating larger philosophical ideas.

Sally Sommer from The Village Voice states, "Porter, mistress of the short, sharp character portrait, is that rare breed - nimble witty comedian. A soloist with a neat collection of personas, Porter sketches them with the perfect physical gesture ... Porter is always delightful, often wickedly funny."

Claire Porter has received many commissions and honors including those from the National Endowment for the Arts, The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation and most recently a Guggenheim Fellowship. Porter has an MA in Dance from The Ohio State University, a BA in Mathematics and is a Laban Movement Analyst.

Porter is setting a brand new commission on Repertory Dance Theatre titled, Sentence to Sentence. This newly created, witty piece will premiere on RDT's November concert, REVEL, and will feature dancers speaking (and dancing).

In addition to working with the Company, Porter will be holding a Community Workshop on August 15, open to dancers and non-dancers alike. Students will have the opportunity to perform a piece in PORTABLES.
