John Caliendo, Lindsay Dunn Win Paper Mill's 2011 Rising Star Awards

Since their inception in 1996 the Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark S. Hoebee- Producing Artistic Director, Todd Schmidt-Managing Director) Rising Star Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theatre have ignited the careers of many notable performers, all of whom attended high school in New Jersey. Among the early nominees and winners are Academy Award® nominee Anne Hathaway, Tony® award winner Laura Benanti, and 2011 Tony® nominee, Nikki M. James. Paper Mill Playhouse hosted the 16th Annual Rising Star Awards- Presented by the Investors Savings Bank Foundation on Tuesday, June 7th at the Millburn Theater. Schools nominated for Outstanding Overall Musical and Leading Actor/Actress nominees performed at the event and award recipients were presented with a crystal award from Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards partner, Tiffany & Co. Westfield High School came out on top, winning nine Rising Star Awards (including Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical) and two scholarships.
Touchstone Theatre presents Sixth Annual Young Playwrights’ Festival 5/21

This year, Touchstone Theatre's sixth annual showcase of new plays written by local elementary and middle schools will be held at Baker Hall, the main stage at Zoellner Arts Center on Lehigh University's campus. The Young Playwrights' Festival will be held on May 21 at 7:00 pm, with a gala reception in the Lehigh University Art Galleries immediately following the performance.

Paper Mill Playhouse hosted its Center Stage Celebration on Friday, May 13th at the Hilton Short Hills. The benefit honored eight time Academy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken with the theater's prestigious Frank Carrington Excellence in the Arts Award. There to add to the entertainment of the evening and help honor the music man was Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award winner Laura Benanti. Beginning in May, Premiere Theatre & Performance (PTAP) will present The International Voices Project (IVP), a series of concert readings by playwrights of international origins. These one-night events, produced in collaboration with the Consulate Generals of Spain, France, Japan, Canada, and India will include a performance, a post performance dialogue with the cast and audience, and a reception featuring regional cuisine.
