STAGE TUBE: Michael Andrew Talks TPAC's NUTTY PROFESSOR

The Broadway-bound THE NUTTY PROFESSOR musical, premiering this summer at TPAC in Nashville, will feature the talents of Broadway favorites Mark Jacoby, Marissa McGowan, and previously announced Michael Andrew. They will star as Dean Warfield, Stella, and Julius Kelp respectively. In the video below, Andrew chats about playing the iconic character!

Pablo Heras-Casado to Debut as Orchestra of St. Luke's Principal Conductor 7/15

Pablo Heras-Casado will perform for the first time as Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) new Principal Conductor at the orchestra's birthplace and summer home Caramoor International Music Festival. On July 15, 2012 Heras-Casado will lead the orchestra in a program of Beethoven and Ravel with one of the world's most renowned pianists, Emanuel Ax.

World Premiere of 3C Opens at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater Tonight, 6/21

Monte Merrick to Hold Workshop at Lakewood Center for the Arts

Lakewood Theatre Company will offer a workshop with one of Oregon's most successful writers for stage and film, Monte Merrick. The workshops will be held Sunday, May 20th from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego. Fee for the 3 hour workshop is $50. Sir Simon Rattle Leads LA Phil and Magdalena Kozena at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Now thru 5/6

Sir Simon Rattle returns to Los Angeles for his first concerts leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall, today, Friday and Saturday, May 3, 4 and 5, at 8 pm, and Sunday, May 6, at 2 pm. Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožena sings Mahler's settings of Friedrich Ruckert's Romantic poetry. Also on the program are Ligeti's Atmospheres, Wagner's Prelude to Act 1 of Lohengrin, and Bruckner's Symphony No. 9.

Shaw Fest's PRESENT LAUGHTER Begins Previews Today, 5/3

Artistic Director Jackie Maxwell previously announced the casting and creative teams for the three plays featured next season on The Shaw's Festival Theatre stage. In making the announcement, Ms. Maxwell noted: 'I am so inspired by the range of talent we've assembled to make up our 2012 Ensemble. This extraordinary group of artists will bring to life the vivid contemporary ideas of each and every playwright whose work we are proudly presenting.'

STAGE TUBE: I AM THEATRE Project - Marcus Gardley

Marcus Gardley is a poet-playwright whose most recent play every tongue confess premiered at Arena Stage starring Phylicia Rashad and directed by Kenny Leon. It was nominated for the Steinberg New Play Award and the Charles MacArthur Award for outstanding new play. His musical, ON THE LEVEE premiered last summer at Lincoln Center and was nominated for 11 Audelco Awards including outstanding playwright. Last Spring, his play AND JESUS MOONWALKS THE MISSISSIPPI was produced at the Cutting Ball Theater and received the SF Bay Area Theater Critics circle Award nomination for outstanding new play. He has had six plays produced including: DANCE OF THE HOLY GHOST at Yale Repertory Theatre (now under a Broadway option,) (L)IMITATIONS OF LIFE, at the Empty Space and LIKE SUN FALLIN' IN THE MOUTH at the National Black Theatre Festival. He is the recipient of the Hellen Merrill Award, a Kellsering Honoree, the Gerbode Emerging Playwright Award, the National Alliance for Musical Theatre Award, the Eugene O'Neill Memorial Scholarship, and the ASCAP Cole Porter Prize. He holds an MFA in Playwriting from the Yale Drama School and is a member of New Dramatists, The Dramatists Guild and the Lark Play Development Center.
