A MYSTERY of dimming gaslight and footsteps in the night, matched with the timeless theme of marital manipulation, form the basis of a popular Victorian thriller on show at Limelight Theatre this autumn.

Every season the Repertory of St. Louis plucks a gem or two from the past to mix in with some of their more current selections. It's undoubtedly a treat when it happens, because there's always something there that rings true with a modern audience. Whether it's a comedy whose jokes still maintain a since of topicality due to our current economic or political woes, or a drama that gives us insight into situations that are still being addressed, the Rep finds these works that are, in a sense, timeless. British writer Patrick Hamilton came up with some interesting and dark works that Hollywood embraced and had success putting up on the big screen. One of those was the play GASLIGHT (another was Hitchcock's ROPE) which changed its name for its American premier to ANGEL STREET. Although already lensed before in Britain, the 1944 Hollywood film version is a classic, featuring the smoothly sinister acting of Charles Boyer subtly menacing our fragile heroine, played by Ingrid Bergman. But now you can see the play as it was originally written, and marvel at how this piece, in the right hands, can still be the same suspense-filled thriller it was intended to be. This is expertly crafted entertainment that will surely get you in the mood for the Halloween season, and I highly recommend it!

Louis Jourdan, a French actor famous for American film and television appearances in the Oscar-winning musical GIGI, MADAME BOVARY, CAN-CAN, and THE FIRST OLYMPICS: ATHENS, 1896, as well as Broadway appearances in shows such as ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER, has died. The Hollywood Walk of Fame winner was 93.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey announced today it was extending the run of its critically acclaimed comedy Tovarich through September 1st. Added performances of this long-forgotten treasure, by French playwright Jacques Deval and adapted by the American author Robert E. Sherwood, are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 29th, 30th and 31st at 8 p.m.; and Saturday August 31st and Sunday, September 1st at 2 p.m.

GAS LIGHT, a Victorian thriller by British dramatist, Patrick Hamilton, opened in London in 1939 and in 1941 appeared on Broadway under the title, ANGEL STREET. The dark, psychological thriller about a murderous, scheming husband, who sets out to convince his wife that she is going mad, was an instant success and went on to become one of the longest-running non-musical shows in Broadway's history...

Princeton Summer Theater presents a thrilling new production of Patrick Hamilton's psychological drama, GASLIGHT. Originally presented in America as Angel Street, and immortalized by the 1944 film with Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer, this gripping play will keep audiences on the edge of their seats from start to finish. The show opens tonight, July 5.

From hit men to poisonings, murder to madness, and deaths real and figurative, the June offerings on 'Reel 13' run a dark gamut of dastardly doings. The series picks up on June 16 after pre-emptions for the June Pledge period.
