An enchanting romantic comedy, Shakespeare Twelfth Night completes GLT's Fall Repertory pairing. Hope seems lost when a violent shipwreck separates young Viola from her boat and twin brother. However, tragedy quickly turns romantic when she washes ashore in Illyria - an exotic island that is about to be turned topsy-turvy by love. To survive in her strange new world, she disguises herself as a boy messenger and enters the employ of an island inhabitant. Misplaced affections and misunderstood intentions result when she unexpectedly becomes an object of desire to the woman her employer sent her to woo! Time may correct the course of the isle's myriad misguided lovers, but not before the Bard bewitches all in his enchanting comedy.

Nationally esteemed theatre-maker Joseph Hanreddy, former Artistic Director of Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, directs a cast of 19 in his new version of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility on the Leonard C. Haas Stage at People's Light from February 10 to March 20, 2016.

In his program notes for Great Lakes Theater's production, director Joseph Hanreddy states, 'KING LEAR, with its titanic range of emotional, vast physical landscape, dark ironic humor and snarl of mysteries, contradictions, ambiguity and paradoxes, render it one of the theater's greatest challenges to realize in performance.' To his credit, Hanreddy creates a production which lives up to the challenge.

There isn't a weak link in this incredible production; every cast member is playing their A-game here, especially that Bay Area godsend, Larry Alexander.

From Here to Eternity, Gone with the Wind, In Harm's Way, War and Peace…Classic literature and film where war in any century or country divides families, loved ones and nations. Renaissance Theaterworks opens their 2014-2015 season in the Studio Theatre continuing this compelling tradition with the Midwest premiere of Amelia-Playwright Alex Webb's soul-searching tribute to a woman trapped in America's struggle to end slavery. Beginning in 1861, the 'Great' Civil War tore homes, the land and lives figuratively and literally asunder for four years while the subtle aftereffects rage hidden in some human hearts 150 years later.

Boy hates girl. Girl hates boy. Boy overhears that girl is secretly in love with boy; girl hears vice versa. Other boy and girl love each other, but something gets in the way of their happiness. That's the basic premise of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, which is now on stage at Great Lakes Theatre. Throw in a couple of interesting subplots, including an idiotic sheriff, a phony death, an irrational lover (is there any other kind?), and a vengeful half-brother, and you have the makings of one of William Shakespeare's best comedies. In fact, the fifth best of all of the Bard's plays, according to a renowned Shakespeare expert.
