MEMPHIS, winner of four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical, celebrates its 500th performance on Wednesday, December 29th at 2pm at the Shubert Theatre.
Mainstreet Musicals and WBAI-Pacifica will present a benefit evening called MAKING WAVES on Monday, November 8th at The Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th Street featuring Hal Linden among others. This is Mainstreet Musical's launch event highlighting songs from musicals that have changed minds, turned corners, roused ire, and generally uplifted the human spirit. The benefit evening will include performances by HAL LINDEN, JILL EIKENBERRY, MICHAEL TUCKER, MARY TESTA, DEBORAH MONK, CASS MORGAN, JANE SUMMERHAYS, CHRIS SARANDON, TIM JEROME, WALTER CHARLES, CAROLE DEMAS, K.T. SULLIVAN, DE'ADRE AZIZA and the cast of HAIR among others. The benefit will be directed by Charles Repole. Mainstreet Musicals and WBAI-Pacifica are teaming up to develop a network of local theatre festivals around the country that will introduce award-winning new musicals into communities where they are absent or in short supply. Mainstreet Musicals is a spin off of National Music Theater Network/NYMF.

Back in May, the New York Post reported that pop-star Justin Timberlake had been expressing interest in starring in a film version of the Tony-winning musical, MEMPHIS. Now, with Zac Efron having just made his second visit to the musical, they're speculating that he's interested in the part as well.

Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers and commentators for all media covering New York theatre announced today its award winners for the 2009-10 season in 23 categories.
Last week the New York Post reported that Justin Timberlake was interested in making a movie of MEMPHIS and this week ... it's Oliver Stone. The paper states that Stone is a big fan of the show which he's seen twice already and that he's been taking meetings with David Bryan. A representative for Stone confirms the director is interested in the project, telling the publication, 'He's thinking about it.'
The New York Post is reporting that while pop star Justin Timberlake was backstage with girlfriend Jessica Biel at MEMPHIS on Broadway last week, that he told the show's composer, Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan that 'he's interested in turning the show into a movie.' Timberlake, aged 29 was born in Memphis, Tennessee where the show takes place.
