I hope there's a time when we don't feel like Alice Birch's bold, blackly funny, uncompromising battle cry of a play is a necessary intervention. A time when we're not reeling from sexist Olympics commentary, relentless online attacks on women who dare to enter political debate, or the news that American swimmer Brock Turner served only three months in prison after raping an unconscious girl. A time when the play's explosive anger and bone-deep sadness isn't met by our own.

Yale Repertory Theatre, celebrating 50 years of daring artists, bold choices, and adventurous audiences, presents the world premiere of Scenes from Court Life, or the whipping boy and his prince by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Mark Wing-Davey, September 30-October 22 at Yale University Theatre (222 York Street). Opening Night is Thursday, October 6.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) has announced performance and ticket on-sale dates for OTHELLO, directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold (Fun Home). OTHELLO will begin previews on Tuesday, November 22and open on Monday, December 12 at New York Theatre Workshop (79 E. 4th Street New York, NY 10003) for a limited run through Wednesday, January 18, 2017.

ice&fire today announces the world premiere of THE ISLAND NATION, written by its Artistic Director Christine Bacon and directed by Ria Parry, which opens at the Arcola Theatre on 28 October, with previews from the 26 October, and runs until 19 November 2016. 

Casting has been announced for first major revival of Caryl Churchill's BLUE HEART, nearly 20 years after its Royal Court premiere, co-produced by Tobacco Factory Theatres and the Orange Tree Theatre. Blue Heart brings them together to work again with key creatives David Mercatali and Angela Davies, who have worked on previous projects with both organisations. The play runs at Tobacco Factory Theatres 22 September-1 October, and at the Orange Tree Theatre 13 October-19 November.

And so Helen ends up in Troy, her husband Menelaus is furious, and the Greeks go to war against the Trojans. For nearly a decade.  But this is not your father's Iliad-it's something more timeless and compelling, in Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare's An Iliad, adapted from the translation by Robert Fagles, beginning a 4-week run in the Studio at Stage West on Thursday, August 11.

This August, Bloomberg Summer at the Roundhouse, the annual season dedicated to introducing new audiences to innovative culture, returns for its fifth consecutive year with Curtain Call by internationally renowned artist, architect and designer Ron Arad.  Ron Arad's 360° floor-to-ceiling installation is made up of 5,600 silicon rods suspended and filling the Roundhouse's iconic main space. Alongside the installation the Roundhouse has announced seven unique music events, designed by an eclectic mix of artists to take place as one-off performances in and around the installation.

Kip Williams is to be Sydney Theatre Company's Interim Artistic Director, Ian Narev, Sydney Theatre Company Chairman, announced today. A Resident Director at STC since 2013, Williams begins his new role immediately and will continue until a new Artistic Director is appointed later this year.

After a sell-out run in 2016 at the Royal Court Theatre, Caryl Churchill's critically acclaimed new play Escaped Alone will return to the Royal Court for a two week run Wednesday 25 January - Saturday 11 February 2017 and will then tour to The Lowry, Salford Quays Tuesday 7 - Saturday 11 March 2017, Cambridge Arts Theatre Tuesday 14 - Saturday 18 March and Bristol Old Vic Wednesday 22 - Sunday 26 March 2017.
