Following an extensive two-year renovation, San Francisco's Curran reopened last night with the groundbreaking Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home. Performances began January 25 (running four weeks through February 19) with an official opening night held last night, January 26. BroadwayWorld has photos from the starry opening festivities below!

San Francisco's Curran to Re-Open This Month with Tony Award Winning FUN HOME

Following an extensive two-year renovation, San Francisco's Curran is set to re-open this month with the groundbreaking Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home.  Performances begin January 25 (running 4 weeks through February 19) with an official opening night set for Thursday, January 26 at 8:00 pm.

Paramount Pictures, with the Curran theater and the San Francisco Film Society, will present the San Francisco Premiere of the film Fences, which has been adapted into a motion picture by the late August Wilson. The event, 30 years after the play first played at the Curran theater ahead of its Broadway premiere, will reopen the Curran following a just-completed, extensive renovation.

THE ENCOUNTER, Starring Simon McBurney, Headed to San Francisco Next Spring

On the heels of unanimous raves on Broadway, Carole Shorenstein Hays announced today that the Complicite production of The Encounter, Simon McBurney's riveting one-man play where audience members must wear headphones to take part in the journey, will continue at the Curran for a limited engagement next spring, April 25 - May 7, 2017.

STAGE TUBE: The Curran Gets Ready for FUN HOME with 'Ring of Keys' Music Video for GLAAD Spirit Day

The Curran today released a music video of the song 'Ring of Keys,' from the Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home, which will re-open the Curran this January after an extensive renovation that is currently underway (and pictured in scenes from the video). The song, written by Tony Award-winners Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori, and performed by students from Oakland School for the Arts (OSA), is in celebration and support of GLAAD and 'Spirit Day' on October 20, 2016, a day that encourages all to take a stand against bullying of LGBTQ youth and wear purple. Tony award-winner and star of Broadway's FUN HOME, Michael Cerveris, has penned an article for the New York Times theater section detailing the events of last week's benefit concert of the show in Orlando, Florida.

FUN HOME Cast Will Travel to Orlando for Special Benefit Concert Performance!

Fun Home, the groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning Best Musical, will play a one-night-only benefit concert performance at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts (445 S Magnolia Ave) in Orlando on their night off on Sunday, July 24, its producers announced today. This performance will be a concert version of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical to raise money for Equality Florida and the LGBTQ community of Orlando.

2016 Tony-Award Nominated Best Play ECLIPSED Will Have West Coast Premiere Engagement at The Curran Next Spring

Playwright Danai Gurira and director Liesl Tommy joined the cast of Broadway's Eclipsed tonight where she surprised the audience during the curtain call and announced plans for Carole Shorenstein Hays to bring the Tony Award-nominated play to the Curran for a limited engagement next spring. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, the most iconic leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, along with Wally Hays (Deputy Director of the Curran) were there for the announcement and dedicated the evening's performance to two of the abducted and still missing 218 schoolgirls of Chikbok, Northern Nigeria, and abducted girls all around the world, as part of the show's ongoing series of dedications that was launched by U2 lead singer Bono and Ms. Gurira last month.
