In celebration of his career as dancer, choreographer, actor, writer and educator, From the Horse's Mouth will dedicate its next theater/dance performance event to Gus Solomons jr, a pioneer and dance legend whose life-long accomplishments exemplify a storied career spanning more than 60 years.
The 2016 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, a prestigious honor that carries a $25,000 cash prize, will be presented to contemporary choreographer, dancer, and artistic director Camille A. Brown in acknowledgement of her vision and outstanding contributions to the dance field. Regularly garnering acclaim for her 'vividness and versatility' (Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times), Brown holds a New York Dance and Performance ('Bessie') Award, two Princess Grace Awards, a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, and her work has toured nationally and internationally. The Jacob's Pillow Dance Award was established in 2007 and, in honor of its 10th anniversary, the Pillow has broadened the scope of this honor with a commitment to the artist's growth and future work. In addition to the unrestricted cash prize, this Award also includes a committed engagement for the 2017 Festival and a Creative Development Residency at Jacob's Pillow. Previous recipients of the Jacob's Pillow Dance Award include the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham; MacArthur Fellows Michelle Dorrance and Kyle Abraham; and John Heginbotham of Dance Heginbotham, among others.
Damian Woetzel continues his DEMO series uniting artists around a common theme, April 22-23, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. This installment of the multi-genre series features Memphis jookin' dance pioneer Lil Buck, along with fellow jooker Ron "Prime Tyme" Myles, and musicians Sandeep Das (tabla), Johnny Gandelsman (violin), Cristina Pato (gaita), Wu Tong (sheng), David Teie (cello), and singer, song-writer, and multi-instrumentalist Kate Davis. This adventurous cast of musicians and dancers will explore, through their performances, the worlds they came from, collaboratively reinventing their own instruments and art forms around the theme of Place.

Thousands of dancers are limbering up in preparation for the 10th Annual Dance Parade and Festival in New York on Saturday May 21st 2016. The annual event is a street parade and dance festival in a city park that brings together dancers from around the city and as far away as Japan to showcase dance styles in a multi-cultural, rhythmic-infused magical display of human movement, art and color.
This past Thursday, Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) opened its doors to the community for an intimate gathering in their studios at the Everett Center of the Performing Arts on 152nd Street (between Amsterdam and St. Nicholas Avenues) to ring in the new year. As part of their Thursdays@DTH series, this evening's theme, Making Dance Communicate, consisted of an open rehearsal of two pieces and a conversation led by Artistic Director Virginia Johnson, with the incomparable Dianne McIntyre and the legendary Carmen de Lavallade.

In a mix of old favorites and two world premieres by Norwood Pennewell and, of course, Fagan himself, Garth Fagan Dance celebrated its 45th anniversary at The Joyce Theater in a week-long engagement, November 3-8, 2015. CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to announce that award-winning actress, playwright and director Regina Taylor will be narrating poems of Dr. Maya Angelou during the world premiere performances of newly-commissioned orchestral works Nov. 13-14 at historic Music Hall. The works, written by pre-eminent American composers Jonathan Bailey Holland, Kristin Kuster and T.J. Cole, are based on Dr. Angelou's poems “Forgive,” “Elegy” and “Equality,” which Ms. Taylor will narrate as part of the performance of the works. The concerts (11 a.m. Nov. 13 and 8 p.m. Nov. 14) mark the culmination of the CSO's annual One City, One Symphony initiative, designed to bring people together through music. Also on the concert program is Dvo?ák's beloved Symphony No. 9 (“From the New World”) and Beethoven's Leonore Overture No. 2.

City College Center for the Arts and Clark Center NYC join together in celebration of The Clark Center for the Performing Arts with a presentation of the acclaimed dance/narrative series From the Horse's Mouth on Thursday, October 1 and Friday October 2 at Aaron Davis Hall. The From the Horse's Mouth production will serve as the culmination of Clark Center NYC's weeklong residency at City College Center for the Arts, made possible, in part, by funding from the CUNY Dance Initiative. Performances of From the Horse's Mouth begin at 7pm. A reception will follow the October 1 performance.
