Theatrical Outfit begins its Season of Compassion with the dramatic comedy The Savannah Disputation, written by Georgia-born playwright Evan Smith and, he says, inspired by today's politics and his Savannah grandmother. The show will run August 21 - September 7, 2014. The show will feature Alex Bond, Lane Carlock, Shannon Eubanks and Mark Kincaid. The Guthrie Theater today announced it will welcome the return of Carlyle Brown & Company with Abe Lincoln and Uncle Tom in the White House, a new play which imagines a meeting between two icons in life and literature - President Abraham Lincoln and Harriet Beecher Stowe's fictional character Uncle Tom. Written and directed by Carlyle Brown (Are You Now or Have You Ever Been...), this original piece will play from March 21-April 6, 2014 in the Dowling Studio. History Theatre will once again partner with the Minnesota History Center to present four staged readings of new scripts that are currently being developed by Minnesota artists. This year's RAW STAGES New Works Festival will include a revised script by Eric 'Pogi' Sumangil about Minnesota's Filipino community (Debutante Ball), along with three newly commissioned scripts from Carlyle Brown (Boundary Waters), Jeffrey Hatcher and Chan Poling (Glensheen), and Garrison Keillor (Radio Man).

Philadelphia Theatre Company has announced A. ZELL WILLIAMS as the recipient of the Terrence McNally New Play Award for the research and development of his play The Urban Retreat about a teacher whose writing career has taken a detour at the request of a former student-turned-Hip-Hop superstar. The Terrence McNally New Play Award is a $10,000 cash prize given annually to recognize a new play that celebrates the transformative power of art. The Award will also include a year of development support at PTC, including readings as well as administrative support and networking to help manage the future of the play beyond its time at PTC.

Philadelphia Theatre Company presents PTC@Play, a two-week festival of new work today, February 18-March 3 at PTC's home at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets). The festival will feature staged readings of four new plays by both established and emerging playwrights, a new play with music in development starring Tony and Barrymore Award winner Forrest McClendon as African American vaudeville legend Bert Williams, and an evening of short plays, FuturePhilly@Play, by seven emerging playwrights. Each playwright will be in-residence at PTC for their reading, and every reading will conclude with a reception where audiences and artists can meet. All events are free with curtain time at 7:30 PM. A highlight of PTC@Play will be the February 18th announcement of the winner of the Terrence McNally New Play Award, a $10,000 cash prize given annually to recognize a new play that celebrates the transformative power of art.

The Guthrie Theater today announced casting for the Pillsbury House Theatre and The Mount Curve Company co-production of The Brothers Size- described as 'an exuberantly theatrical drama from one of the country's most exciting new voices that weaves together brothers, the bayou, and African mythology to create a stylized story of love and heartache.' Written by Tarell Alvin McCraney and directed by Marion McClinton, The Brothers Size will be performed in the Guthrie's Dowling Studio from September 7-29, 2012.

Sundance Institute today announced the acting company and creative advisors for the eight projects being developed at its 2012 Theatre Lab, July 9-29 at the Sundance Resort. Under the supervision of Philip Himberg, Producing Artistic Director, and Associate Director Christopher Hibma, the Lab is the centerpiece of the Theatre Program's year-round work and is designed to support emerging and established artists and to create a place where their original work can be effectively mentored and challenged.
