Steve Hendrickson & James A. Williams to Lead ABE LINCOLN AND UNCLE TOM IN THE WHITE HOUSE at Guthrie Theatre

By:

The Guthrie Theater today announced it will welcome the return of Carlyle Brown & Company with Abe Lincoln and Uncle Tom in the White House, a new play which imagines a meeting between two icons in life and literature - President Abraham Lincoln and Harriet Beecher Stowe's fictional character Uncle Tom. Written and directed by Carlyle Brown (Are You Now or Have You Ever Been...), this original piece will play from March 21-April 6, 2014 in the Dowling Studio. Single tickets start at $18 and are now on sale through the Guthrie Box Office at 612.377.2224, toll-free 877.44.STAGE, 612.225.6244 (Group Sales) and online at www.guthrietheater.org.

Alone in the Executive Office, President Abraham Lincoln struggles with signing the Emancipation Proclamation when he is mysteriously visited by Uncle Tom, the fictional character in Harriet Beecher Stowe's abolitionist novel Uncle Tom's Cabin or Life Among the Lowly. Throughout one late night and into the dawning day, these two iconic characters from life and literature attempt to understand each other across a chasm of race in the midst of the Civil War, and find themselves crossing over into each other's world in a tale of suffering, self-discovery and redemption.

Abe Lincoln and Uncle Tom in the White House features the talents of Steve Hendrickson (Abraham Lincoln), James A. Williams (Uncle Tom), Jodi Kellogg (Mary Todd Lincoln) and India Gurley (Elizabeth Keckley).

The artistic team includes Joe Stanley (Set Designer), Claire Brauch (Costume Designer), Mike Wangen (Lighting Designer), C. Andrew Mayer (Sound Designer) and Kellie Larson (Properties Designer).

Abe Lincoln and Uncle Tom in the White House will preview on March 21, open March 22 and continue through April 6, 2014 in the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie Theater. Single tickets start at $18 and are now on sale through the Guthrie Box Office at 612.377.2224, toll-free 877.44.STAGE, 612.225.6244 (Group Sales) and online at www.guthrietheater.org.
