Philip Glass & Angelique Kidjo's Orchestral Collaboration U.S. Premiere Set for Tonight

The highly anticipated U.S. premiere of Angelique Kidjo and Philip Glass's orchestral collaboration, Ife: Three Yoruba Songs for Orchestra, is set to take place tonight, July 10 with the San Francisco Symphony at San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall, conducted by Edwin Outwater. A short excerpt of the work's world premiere with the Luxembourg Philharmonic may be found here, and a clip of Glass discussing the work on the eve of its premiere may be found here. Tickets and full information on the program, which also includes selections from Kidjo's recent orchestral album, Sings (out now on 429 Records and winning raves around the world) may be found here.

Campbell Brothers & Micahel Gregory Jackson to Play Pettoranello Gardens, 7/18

The Campbell Brothers will bring their Sacred Steel: African-American gospel music on a double bill with acclaimed jazz-fusion guitar wizard Michael Gregory Jackson on Saturday, July 18, 7:00 p.m. Presented by Blue Curtain, this FREE concert takes place at Pettoranello Gardens, Community Park North, Route 206 and Mountain Avenue.  

A NIGHT OF ONENESS Benefit Concert Set for 7/12 at House of Blues

Hosted by “The Office” cast member, Oscar Nunez and comedienne/actress Nikea Gamby-Turner, A Night of ONENESS, Sunday July 12, is slated as one of the final shows at the iconic House of Blues in Hollywood, which will be closing its doors at the end of this summer after 20 years as a vital part of the Los Angeles music scene. The benefit concert will support an emergency fund for Full-Circle Learning Preschool, which creates educational access for migrant families in Ventura County, CA, and Oneness' upcoming series of musical empowerment projects for youth in several locations nationwide including Los Angeles, CA, Baltimore, MD and Pine Ridge, S.D.
