Sheila Frazier Set for SUPERFLY Screening at Museum of the Moving Image, 8/16

Museum of the Moving Image will present a special screening of Gordon Parks, Jr.'s Superfly, the seminal urban crime drama set in 1972 New York City, starring Ron O'Neal, Carl Lee, and Sheila Frazier, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The film's now classic soundtrack—written, produced, and performed by the legendary Curtis Mayfield—is one of the few soundtracks to have out-grossed its film. The special event on Friday, August 16, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. begins with a screening of Superfly in 35mm (96 mins.), with co-star Sheila Frazier in person for a Q&A, followed by a “Best Superfly Outfit” contest and vocal competition for best a cappella singer of a verse from a song on the Superfly soundtrack, emceed by film producer and Museum trustee Warrington Hudlin. He will be joined by Bow Legged Lou, Paul Anthony, and George Logan, cast members from Hudlin's film House Party.

Tom Skerritt Completes A TIME TO KILL Broadway Cast

Producers Daryl Roth and Eva Price announced today that Emmy Award-winning actor Tom Skerritt will make his Broadway debut in A Time to Kill, Tony Award-winning playwright Rupert Holmes' stage adaptation of John Grisham's best-selling novel. Skerritt will portray Lucien Wilbanks, the mentor to protagonist Jake Brigance (played by Sebastian Arcelus), in this thrilling, iconic courtroom drama. Skerritt joins the previously announced Sebastian Arcelus, Chike Johnson, Patrick Page, Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins, Fred Dalton Thompson, John Douglas Thompson, and Ashley Williams plus Dashiell Eaves, J.R. Horne, John Procaccino, Tijuana Ricks, and Lee Sellars. Casting is now complete.

According to an Equity casting notice, Daryl Roth and Eva Price are bringing Rupert Holmes' stage adaptation of John Grisham's novel A Time To Kill to Broadway in Fall 2013. A recent production played Baltimore's Arena Stage in 2011. Rehearsals will begin in August 2013, with opening night set for early October 2013. Ethan McSweeny is set to direct.

Roth revealed in a newletter that she's currently casting for a stage adaptation of John Grisham's 'A Time to Kill, ' and is working on bringing David Hyde Pierce's 'It Shoulda Been You' to a Broadway stage.

Now, Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post that the play is getting closer to Broadway with a new reading set for Friday in New York, featuring Beau Bridges, his daughter Emily and Shuler Hensley. Riedel also reports that Justin Timberlake who has been looking for a theatre project will be 'approached' for the role of the show's young legal protege, Jack Brigance, played out of town by Sebastian Arcelus. There's no word on a potential timeline for the show, or if Timberlake is interested in the part.
