Capitol Center Jazz Orchestra Announce Louis 'Satchmo' Armstrong Tribute for May 6, Concord, NH

As part of "A Moment in Time" Series, The Capitol Center Orchestra, under the direction of Clayton J. Poole, will pay tribute to Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong on Sunday May 6th at 4:00pm. The tribute features the acclaimed Jazz trumpet Artist Byron Stripling. The performance will be held at the Capitol Center for the Arts with tickets starting at $20.

Slatkin Conducts Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony, 11/25

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will embark on an unprecedented series of Metro area concerts to complement performances at Orchestra Hall in 2011-12. One of the autumn's most appealing programs begins tonight when Leonard Slatkin conducts Schubert's 'Unfinished' Symphony, Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 3 and an electrifying new work by the young American composer Mason Bates called 'B-Sides' that closes with a ripping homage to Detroit's techno scene.

Continuing a 125-year tradition of bringing the best American music to audiences in New England and across the country, the legendary Boston Pops and conductor Keith Lockhart present a spring season brimming with a rich variety of American popular music and favorite light classics, May 11 - June 26, at Symphony Hall in Boston, MA. A kaleidoscope of American musical styles, including jazz, bluegrass, Dixieland, country, gospel, pop, rhythm & blues, and the show-stopping songs of Broadway and Hollywood, will be featured during the 2011 Boston Pops Season, as the orchestra performs many of the most celebrated styles of our national musical legacy. The season showcases the phenomenal talents of musical theater greats Linda Eder, Julia Murney, and New York Pops conductor Steven Reineke; Boston Pops Gospel Night conductor Charles Floyd; film music master and Boston Pops Laureate Conductor John Williams; jazz trumpeter and vocalist Byron Stripling; bluegrass king Ricky Skaggs and his band Kentucky Thunder; Ray Charles protégé Ellis Hall; pop music all-star Kenny Loggins; New Orleans jazz ambassadors Dukes of Dixieland; and the great interpreter of the American Songbook, Michael Feinstein.

Trumpet great Byron Stripling (formerly of Carnegie Hall Jazz Band) returns to New York for a reunion of the 2002 Bechet Society concert with trombonist Wycliffe Gordon (former Lincoln Center Jazz Orch. member). Joined by four-time Clarinetist of the Year award winner, Anat Cohen. And the amazing rhythm section of drummer Marion Felder, guitarist Howard Alden, and bassist Dwayne Burno.
