Main Street Theater (MST) presents the beloved modern classic Holes by Louis Sachar (who resides in Austin). Children and adults alike love the book Holes, the now-iconic movie of Holes, and the play. Main Street Theater opens its 42nd Season with Enemies by Maxim Gorky, adapted by David Hare.  Enemies tells the story of Russian society in 1905 when the country sat ready for revolution.  Directed by MST Artistic Director Rebecca Greene Udden, this collaboration with the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance features a cast of 24, 8 of whom are UH students.

Main Street Theater (MST) closes its 2016 - 2017 MainStage subscription season with the regional premiere of Native Gardens by Karen Zacarias.  "I'm interested in working on scripts that reflect both a world I know and understand, and a world that to me is entirely foreign," shares director Brandon Weinbrenner.  "Native Gardens centers on the comedic combat between two opposite parties with respective poignancies, prejudices, and basic needs.  I love this play and am thrilled to be working on a script by the heartfelt and hilarious Karen Zacarias."

From the bodily fluid throwing Miggs to the naked and tucked Buffalo Bill, expect to see everything you witnessed in the movie recreated live onstage by a company who at times don Lambchop hand puppets to narrate the action. It's fast, furious, and like being blasted by hits of nitrous oxide constantly without the pain of dental work.

I got the opportunity to speak with actors Chris Gibson and Rachel Landon, Stage Manager Lauren Hainley, and Choreographer Eric Dano about SRO's upcoming production of SILENCE! THE MUSICAL. The musical is a parody of the 1991 Academy Award winning film, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.
