One of the decade's most important and inspired Broadway musicals, IN THE HEIGHTS, winner of four 2008 Tony Awards® and the 2008 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Show Album, will soon be available to South Florida theater goers when it opens in an exclusive two week run, Tuesday, March 16 through Sunday, March 28 presented by the Florida Theatrical Association at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
The excitement begins on Saturday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. with Ramiele Malubay, Season Seven American Idol Finalist, in 'Back to You,' her first hometown performance since touring with the top 10 American Idols throughout the USA and Philippines. Together with Fellow Idol Contestant Danny Noriega, they will wow the audience with their rockin' sweet Big Voices. The show will touch on the importance of giving back to our community such as GK (Gawad Kalinga), a global army against poverty.

From the theatrical madness of 'Young Frankenstein' that only a Mel Brooks could produce, to the depths of passionate emotion evoked by such legendary musicals as 'Les Misérables' and 'West Side Story,' announced by Broadway Across America for subscription season 2010-2011 are a mix of six (6) musical hits that will also include such current Broadway show-stoppers as 'HAIR,' the dance excitement of 'Burn The Floor,' and the fast-moving '80s rocker 'Rock of Ages' presented by Florida Theatrical Association at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

After flying high in Los Angeles for 13-weeks, MARY POPPINS folded her umbrella at the Ahmanson Theatre for the final time on Sunday, February 7. During the premiere engagement, the production played 100 performances, entertained over 188,000 theater patrons, grossed $13.7 million at the box office and achieved the milestone of being Los Angeles' highest grossing theatrical event in 2009.
At the time of her acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut, the New York Times hailed Velia's 'impressive precision' and 'vibrant, spotlessly clean performances.' She has appeared often as a soloist with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Venezuela, Orquesta Sinfonica Sociedad Filarmonica de Mexico, Florida Philharmonic, Sinfonica de Maracaibo, Symphony of the Americas, Festival Miami, Amigos Canarios de la Musica, and Orquesta Sinfonica del Peru, among others. She is a graduate of The Manhattan School of Music and also holds a Doctor's degree from the University of Miami. An active proponent of Ibero American music, Velia has premiered major works by classical composers of the Americas and Spain. Electrifying and interactive, Rhythms of Africa features guest musicians and 60 local Miramar children ages 8 -13, including a seven-year-old master drummer. Using percussion instruments and techniques, the show matches African rhythms to the Diaspora, tracing the voyage of sounds from Nigeria and the Ivory Coast to Trinidad, Brazil, Cuba, Jamaica, and New Orleans. It's a journey of African rhythms around the world, heard in contemporary musical influences such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and Santana, whose music is celebrated at the show's conclusion.

The Miami Herald reports that Miami producer and former director of Miami's Coconut Grove Playhouse, Arnold Mittelman, who ran Miami's Coconut Grove Playhouse from 1985 until it's closing in 2006 is planning the first Broadway revival of The Rothschilds, a 1970 musical written by Sherman Yellen and featuring a score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick.
